Toyota Service (or lack of) Mon, 20 January 2003 02:28 Go to next message
Now maybe I assumed wrong, but one would thing the manufacturer of a car would be best suited to servicing that car.

This is the 2nd service I've had done on the cressida since I got it, by a different dealer this time, and again the service has been shit.

Last time they gave it back to me leaking oil from the sump plug, and then told me it was due to my sump and would occur again at the next service (which it didn't), as well as a few other minor things, like electrical problems which weren't there before but they swore were not caused by them.

This time I get my car back and check the engine and trans oil, and both are overful. I also checked the air filter which was supposedly cleaned (even though its a paper element) and it's just as filthy as it was before. Also, when I picked the car up the bastards said it wasn't ready cause they were washing it...bollocks, its still as filthy as it was before it went in, they just hadn't done it in the 24hours I gave them (drop off 0900, pick up 0900).

The Service guy tried checking the engine oil straight after the engine had been running, but conceded it was overful. He then told me they "blow the dust and bugs out" of my air filter, because of course you cant clean or wash a paper filter...no shit.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced shithouse service from Toyota's allegedly superior service department?

Maybe I'm just a grumpy cunt who's been there 3 times after finishing a night shift @ 0700

i'd suggest a service would include normal replacement of the air fliter? a paper type air filter CANNOT be cleaned at all. fine dusting it off does not even come close to replacing it.

over filled oil - too bad about your oil seals...

over filled trans not sure of the aspects of that.

leaking sump plug sounds to me like someone couldn't be bothered replacing the sump plug washer? bullshit they all leak...its a toyota FFS!

i'd take it up with the service manager and failing that i'd find a reputable mechanic...

My mummy bought brand spanker 1998 model Camry 4 banger in 1998 and about a year after she got it, it developed a really bad grinding noise coming from the front of the car. When ever you turn or brake, it would make this noise.

Took it to a one Toyota service centre and they replaced the gearbox and CV joints under warranty.

Ok cool, problem fixed?

Nup

Problem came back, grindy grindy grindy. WTF?

Took it to a different Toyota service centre and got them to look at it.

And you know what it was?

A tiny stone stuck between the brake pads and disc.

Dickheads Razz

Thanks for the free gearbox and clutch, but there was nothing wrong with the original Mr Toyota Man! Surprised

Toyotas are cool though, just wouldnt let them service it.

My brother had problems dealing with toyota in Brisbane (Sci fleet Kedron) and after dealing with their spare parts department I don't know how they won all those awards on the wall.

I wish Byrne ford hadn't lost the Daihatsu franchise, they were much better to deal with for daihatsu parts Crying or Very Sad

Any car manufacturer, if u take it to get serviced, it gets serviced and looked at the same way a monkey at kmart would. Only difference is that they will use Toyota or whatever parts, and the kmart place will use Repco or whatever parts.

I know this guy who services Mitsubishi's and he is just like any other mechanic you know.

my parents went for a drive out to mudgee and were having problems with their MX83 cressy, managed to limp into the toyota dealer there and they spent 4 hours going over the whole car with every test device they had, this was with my old man (ex-mechanic) helping, unfortunatley they couldnt find the problem but my old man said the service was exceptional, seeing as tho they just turned up from nowhere with a car not under warranty.

anyways my parents limped home and the next day my old man found that the rotor button had practically melted, replaced it and it was fine.

perhaps the further away from sydney you get the better the dealer service is?

i can't see toyota service being that great if they took 4 hrs and didnt check the rotor button. like, if you've got 4 hrs, surely you'd check the rotor button! Razz

4 hrs! Shocked

i see what your saying but the symptoms all pointed to a ECU or wiring problem, so they were checking and resetting the ECU and various parts of the wiring and plugs, unfortunatly the ECU doesnt have a "burnt out rotor button" error code.

The motto of the story is if you find a good mechanic keep going to the same guy.

I take my car to this mechanic who lives 2 hours away, I have been taking all sorts of cars to him over the years and now I just leave them at his place until he has fixed the issue.

I wouldn't use the a dealership at all, I could read a book and figure it out myself before those guys got anywhere.

Just because you take your car to a dealership mechanic doesnt mean we are any better than another mechanic. They are here because you void your warranty if you get your car serviced somewhere else. If you take your car to a servo for a $99 service and they fuck your car, you have to pay for it. If you get it serviced at a dealership and they fuck your car, then they fix it. Free of charge.
The only extra training you get at a toyota dealership (that I know of) is how to code keys and radios and how to diagnose a car using an intelligent tester. They are trained at tafe just like any other mechanic.
I understand the customer service could be lacking, but that is the individual's fault. Not the whole dealership.

I dont mean to piss anyone off. Just telling the facts.

justcallmefrank...the first one was galleria toyota back when I first got the car, the last one was big rock toyota in balcatta.

Logic tells me the extra cost for taking it to the dealer would mean better service, but i think next time I'll try the mechanic a guy at work uses for all his cars.
