FIBROMYALGIA CRUISE
Overdrive Motorsport will be holding a Car Cruise from Homebush to Bateau Bay Recreational Sports Fields on the 11th December, 2005. This Cruise is to increase the awareness and recognition for a disease known as Fibromalygia. I am Adrian Marcelino Owner of Overdrive Motorsport and my Mother has the disease mentioned above, it is a disease which at this stage is incurable and only limited research is being carried out at the Arthritis New South Wales Centre, but with the help of others we are trying to raise funds for them to get a grant for their own centre and evidently find a cure for the disease. Fibromalygia itself attacks the joints and bones within the body, causing quite a substantial amount of discomfort, it lends itself around the body. For example somedays you may wake up with your left knee aching, the next your whole right side might be aching. I have been living with the knowledge that my mum’s days are organized by the disease, if it is a “bad day” as we put it, she will be bed ridden for the day, and if it is a “good day” then she will be able to do some of the day’s tasks. The disease itself has been known to be more painful than Cancer itself, which shows the severity of the disease.
The Actual definition of the disease, which is from Philip Hopkin, Executive Director of the Arthritis New South Wales Centre:
“Fibromyalgia is a mysterious chronic condition which is now classified as one of the 150 conditions related to Arthritis. It is difficult to diagnose and affects millions of people worldwide, it affects more women then men.
Fibromyalgia causes chronic scattered pain, lack of energy, poor sleep and many other signs & symptoms including aching, painful muscles in many places in your body even a little pressure feels painful. Much research is needed to find out what causes it and how it can be cured.”
We have organized with Mr. Hopkin who is the Executive Director of the Arthritis New South Wales Centre is thrilled at our idea and more than helpful in everything. We are aiming at gathering $10,000 in total. This will be done through a number of methods such as a Raffle on the day, sales of stickers and direct donations. We have also received an official fundraising number which is CFN 12845, making it all legal.
