hi folks, TCCQld is having its annual christmas cruise/bbq and it would be great if other toyota-driving-car-dorks (like yourselves) came along!
Info from the Club Magazine...
SUNDAY 11 December
Meet at Motorama 4x4xMore, Beaudesert Rd, Salisbury, Drivers will have a friendly departure time of 9.30am to get up to Somerset Dam for a bbq lunch and swim.
The club drinks trolley will be coming along for the ride. BYO bbq food unless you trust cruise organisers to bring food for you
I'm taking a ute so i can carry heavy stuff for people (well, smallish heavy stuff actually).
Slow drivers (like this ute-driving celica owner) will do something like:
- head directly out to the dam via Ipswich Road
- onto the Warrego Highway (to bypass Ipswich)
- at Blacksoil (just outside Ipswich) take the Esk exit (Brisbane Valley Hwy) and head towards Fernvale
- continuing over Wivenhoe Dam and then on to Esk for a
break in the shade
- continuing north, then turning off the highway to Caboonbah and then onto Somerset Dam.
If there is enough interest, faster drivers might take a shortcut via Mt Nebo or Mt Glorious:
- head towards the gap via Toowong & Ashgrove
- either continue thru The Gap onto Mt Nebo, or skip over to Keperra and Ferny Grove then onto Samford Village before climbing the big hill
- once over the top of the hill, it's a test of your brake pad durability and tyre grip with a long downhill trek ending up
- at the bottom of Brisbane Forest Park and at the back of Wivenhoe Dam
- turn right (north) to head towards Somerset Dam on some fast flat roads-which have the occaisional surprise hard-turn
Once at the dam, all drivers should continue on past the actual dam (which is fenced off these days) going North alongside the dam towards Kilkoy on a fun bit of road with lots of corners) following the dam until reaching a large bbq/boating/swimming area on your right.
BYO UFH radio so we can contact the team (Eric & co).
Make sure you bring a chair and some shade (if you have portable shade) as it will get sunny. Bring a towel and swimming gear as there might be watery fun to be had.
Being holiday time there will be a few tourists on the road?so assume the worst of drivers not on our cruise.
If you are interested in coming along, contact the club president (Stefan: 0410 066 618) so we know to wait for you at or meet up with you on the way.

not sure - last year we had a small turnout but a few 4WD with family/friends made it a reasonable (if small) gathering at Wivenhoe Dam.
Best thing would be to contact Stefan.
