do not go anywhere near Nippon Sydney at lansvale.
these guys sold me a half cut and never gave me a computer and six months later i still dont have it. the engine in the first half cut was stuffed the loom on the waranty engine was chopped, the half cut had no map sensor, and ive spent at least 30 bucks and countless hours of my time on the phone trying to sort it out with them, because they had a good price on a half cut i recomended some of you guys to go there. but everyone that has gone there has been fed the same bulls#*t, "it will be here in the next container". (which never comes)
rattlehead has been waiting 5 months for his half cut and is only just getting his check back in the mail because i went out ther and yelled at them. the long and short of it is -
cheaper isnt always better.
and never buy toyota parts off someone that doesnt know the difference between a 7MGTE a 1GGTE and a 1JZGTE
oh yeah and these guys suck!

Yeh it's true. I think I started dealing with them in September. They told me they had a JZA70 half cut, rang them again to send me pics etc...They told me the price for the cut was $1600. I rang again and they told me that they'll hold the 'MA71' half cut if I put down a $500 deposit.
I was ready to pay the rest of the half cut about 2 weeks later...and that was when GiantTomato went up to Sydney. I rang Nippon Sydney and they told me they had sold the half cut. So basically stuffed David up coz of these idiots.
I rang them a week later and they told me that it was going to come in 'the next container'. So I rang about 2 days after the supposed container came in and I got told that it would come into the 'next' one. Kept on happening until he finally said that there was a white JZA70 manual half cut in the container at the docks which he saw with his own eyes. Asked him when it would come in, and he said in 3 days it'll be at the shop or whatever. Rang 5 days later and he said that the container hasn't arrived. So I just said 'Listen, it's been 5 months, can I have my money back? Coz I could have completed my conversion by now.'
He put me onto this other person who took my address...and it's been 3 weeks and I havent gotten back my money. I have checked everyday because I wanted to buy stuff (Gone stereo route until I have more money for conversion) and waited 2 full weeks before I put a stop to the money order before Jeff goes and cashes it.
Some wreckers/importers or whatever are dodgey, and I have not been screwed around like this. This guy is a toss. Nice on the phone but man, sometimes I wonder if I'm ringing his house phone and he's just watching TV and is being nice so I hang up quickly. Not a way to run a business.
Dont go Nippon Sydney unless they actually HAVE what you want there.
EDIT: Forgot to add in, First they said JZA70, then MA71, after they said they sold the JZA70, they said that they put my deposit down for a JZA80 instead of 70. JZA80 half cut from them was $16k in the newspapers. Big difference between putting a deposit down for a $16000 half cut and a $1600 one. Anyway, after that they told me that they were meant to sell me a GA70 half cut. Just for being dumb, I hope they shut down and stop fucking everyone around.

sorry to hear this story it pisses me off to no end hearing how business screw people, just a quick question, why did u pay them before some one could go check out the engine?
no offence or anything its just i hear this story a 1000 times when it comes to modifying cars, where people pay before the mechanic has done the work, or before the importer has gotten the engine, and then they get rorted.
Im not rubbing it in guys but this is for anyone who is thinking of getting into the car scene and dealing with people or businesses they dont know.
Rule No1: NEVER pay up front!
Rule No2: if they want a deposit make the deposit as small as possible.
Rule No3: DO NOT pay unless the job is done or you are there watching them load the engine into your ute after YOU have inspected it.
if you are getting an engine built and they ask for money for this or for that dont give it to them, they are a business they should be able to buy the goods and do the work before you pay.
hope this helps guys, also feel free to add more rules, also any chance of this being a tech article?

Think nothing of it. I was doing the import wrecker circuit when I was up there anyway.

There is a flip side - you can get a JZA70 halfcut for the same price as a GA70 halfcut.

Oh yeh, and I couldnt check the front cut coz I'm in Melbourne and they are in Sydney. Since they are a 'business' I thought it would be okay to put a deposit down, which was only $500, but $500 I can get myself something.
Also, those guys thought the JZA80 had a 7M in it.
If I'm going to buy something, I'm going to fly there myself to have a look and make sure its put on the truck, so I dont get a half cut with half the parts meant to be there with a different engine etc...
I had 2 weeks in which I could have gotten someone to do my conversion, and coz they didn't supply the cut, it screwed me around and now I dont really have time to have my car off the road.

Well I have a happy story to tell after many days ringing importers I finaly got to the point where the conversion went like this;
Ring Ring
"Hello, insert Importer name here, wanker speaking"
"Yes hello, I'm after a JZA70 Manual frontcut"
"JZA70? We have an MA70 Cut, JZA70? Is that the new shape or old?"
Click brrr brrr brrr
I did find one at Asian Auto Spares up here in Brisbane but it had 120,000kms on it, didn't look too well and had $4000 on it!!
Anyway thought I had lost all hope in finding one that was in good shape and in my budget. That was until a guy on PF said to ring Jap Parts in Adelaide as he saw a couple there. So I rang the guys down there, find out the owner of the place LOVES his Supras and had recently completed a 1JZGTE swap into his MA70.
He was very clued up. So after an hour on the phone to him he said that one was already sold but they had the other there for $4000, I offered $3500 and they agreed.
He sent a couple of photos of it and it looked very clean. So luckly I have a couple of good friends down that way and rang them up. Ends up they know of the company and have dealt with him in the past. So my friends get there and are there for 4 hours talking Supra taking photos from all angles.
Needless to say I rang up after getting the report from my friends and brought it, got them to ship it to Queensland. It was a perfect cut, they had brung in the car but couldn't get any plates for it so it went the chop Was a JZA70R with dark green paint.

Very Impressed.

dude, sorry, you took it the wrong way!! i meant it as one of the 'general' rules of car/engine mods and rebuilds etc. you know, to help you not get screwed over by lowlife tech guys and importers. am in no implying ppl in this scenario did this!!

When I rang Asian Auto Spares they wanted like $2100 for a JZA70 half cut, that was like last March I rang. They said I had 2 to pick from, black one or Blue one. With full panels and stuff and 92000k on it.
Hmm...they must be real popular for them to bump em up to $4000.

I've seen Auto ones go for that price but manuals still seen to pull mid 3s
If you get one for that price you are doing well!!

Ahh yeh, true, was an auto.
Jap Parts got a 5 speed JZA70 for $4200, so $3500 is very good!
Wastegate, you happen to have parts left over form that half cut?

I had a similiar problem with Adelaide Jap Dismantlers.
I'm from near Newcastle, but basically buy from where-ever the parts are, So ended up talking to these guys in south Australia.
They lied, sent photos of stock they didn't have, then tried to piece together a cut from a bunch of different parts they had lying aroud.
Thing is, if you pay a deposit via credit card, it's so easy to gett the money back. You ring Visa, they send you a form, you send it back, and days later the money is back.
You can always do something to get people back though.....
