icon5.gif  AE86 fuel pump?? other external pumps?? Mon, 20 January 2003 22:50 Go to next message
Hi Ppl,
i'm looking to find an AE86 in-tank EFI fuel pump setup (ie brackets and things) to measure or buy for my KE15 corolla.
or alternatively does anyone have a cheap external pump.
i'll only be running 210cc injectors so no need for anything fancy Wink
are any other common toyotas externally pumped??
sorry for the basic questions, but i'm just starting in EFI. i have the manifold, injectors and computer, just need fuel pump and O2 sensor now Smile

im putting a 4AGE in my AE86 and i bought an external fuel pump from a place called precision auto electrics, 233 Cantebury Rd, Cantebury. $176, its a bosch and looks pretty good.
im told that a in-tank pump off an AE82 will fit in an AE86 but not sure bout the KE15,
i just went for a new pump coz then you will be sure that it will work.
hope this helps.

let me know how it turns out

i need an O2 sensor too!
and a vacuum sensor!

do you have any specs on the pump? like pressure, flow rate etc??
i agree that a new pump would be better...

i met a guy in canada who is putting a 4AG in a KE15, and he used the AE86 intank pump by cutting a hole at the top of the KE15 tank and mounting as is. was the right height from the bottom of the tank...

for an O2 sensor i was going to get a 3 wire one from www.nardek.com.au they are in frenchs forest in sydney, but i don't like their online ordering form.. not particularly secure. i'll give em a call and see what they say..
the 3 wire is about $70.

you mean MAP sensor??
the Megasquirt DIY EFI computer i'm using has one built in already, i think it's a Motorola part MXP4225 or something??

As far as I'm aware, none of the Australian delivered AE86's ever came with an EFI tank set-up given that they all had the 4AC motors (ca-bu-rated) bar a couple that were brought over for race purposes only.

Only the higher spec overseas models from America (ie. GTS) or from Japan (ie. GT Apex) with the blue top motor would have such a tank.

Best bet is to get an AE82 tank from a twin cam engine and see if that fits.

An AE82 in tank pump will need the bracket modified (lengthened) to ensure minimal fuel surge but are more than adequate to meet the needs of the stock 4AG and a bit beyond, and the entire bracket will bolt straight up to an AE86 tank. Unfortunately the KE70 tank is a different neck so it wont bolt up to that, but the AE86 tank will bolt in to the KE70.

As for earlier models of the rolla you will either have to cut and shut the AE82 top section of the tank to your existing tank, or rebuild a complete new stainless tank with adaptation to accept an AE 82 pump or better. Finally you can fit an external pump, something out of a VL turbo or equivilant will do the trick, I personally dont go for external pumps because it doesent take much more than a small rock or a bit of debris to break them as it bounces under the car and then you can have some serious problems if the fuel leaks. You can always put some protective brackets around them though but it still wont stop the dust and grime getting to it.

I have heard that some MR2 brackets will fit the sprinter tank as well and are exactly them same as the AE86 bracket

IRA11Y,
and others interested, the MR2 (AW11) is not as good as I originally suggested.
The top mount needs extra holes drilled in it to properly seal (else it will leak slightly when you turn the tank upside down and shake it. Admitedly this won't happen in the car but better safe then sorry)

Although the MR2 bracket seems to, it does not quite sit at the dead bottom of the tank. I have fuel surge at 1/8 of a tank.(this may have more to do with the lack of baffels in the tank tho...)

You also need to turn all three fuel lines turn towards the AE86 fuel lines on the chassis.

On the updise however, you can run some good pumps. I was origanly going to be using a Corona (RT142) intank pump. It is the same as MA61 supra and high flow. However that died whilst sitting around. Now I run a factory AE86 fuel pump Cool which works wonders and is VERY quite (esp compared to the Commodore ones).
