How many people would be interested in an oversized crank pully kit for the 4AGZE? I may be able to get ahold of a number of these for around $350 a kit (comes with pulley, belt and instructions)
Probably best if you email me mrshin@autospeed.comand let me know if you're interested

Not actually sure what size it is, I'll try and measure it in the next day or two if you like. It is however the maximum sized pulley you can fit between the water pump and itself, clearance is about 2 thirds of stuff all.

Hey Darola
Didn't put the dash in since I just got the engine and not a halfcut. Running a ae92 map gze with standard ge gearbox. The car is otherwise totally stock. It's been over a year now since I've put the engine in and I still haven't been able to raise the funds for mods. Damn uni!!

I can get 14psi pulley kit, can deliver in Sydney only need numbers for orders as can only order as bulk, kit is coming from overseas, kits r custom made for own specs (note by-pass valve modiforcations r in order to run 14psi kit), can also get 10 and 12 psi kits (note: these kits r good if dont want to add octane boost, as 14psi kit need 100+ octane or will ping)
pulleys r made of aircraft alloy, high strenght low weight, will need to run genuine toyota thermostat.
pulley kits are $400 inc shiping, will hand deliver (sydney only) can fit for $500 plus $100 for thermostat + coolant
very noticeable power increase
email me on 2tezzu@froggy.com.auand leave name and number so can contact to confirm
can be fitted in half a day, need to allow 6weeks for delivery

Darola,
are you saying that you have to run a nos kit with the 14 psi?? even at low boost or is that just when you push to the limits?? keep me posted as i am very keen... i got a couple of cars that i need to have a go at and i prefer to do it with 14psi instead of 8!

gremlin, u need to run the toyota genuine thrmostat as the 14psi pulley kit overspeeds the waterpump (normal) and it forces the thrmostat open and keeps the engine 2 cool, as the gze engine needs to run abit over halfway or it runs on the cold circuit and runs alittle rich.

Darola,
I have a 4A-GZE in an AE-71 (RWD) with a front mounted GT4 intercooler... would you recommend upgrading the water pump aswell to help handle the extra temp coming from the larger pulley kit???
I really don't want to have to worry about the engine overheating... or not getting enough oxygen... 'cause a mate of mine MELTED the number 3 piston in his car.

I actually fitted one of the ones I'm trying to get today, to an ae101 levin GTZ. Once I started pulling it apart, I noticed this car already HAD an oversized pulley on it, presumably blitz or HKS or something, but it wasn't as big as the one I put on. I didn't have a properly made up idler pulley on hand, so I used a 3SG one that I ground down slightly on the lathe. All up, easy to fit and seems to make a noticeable difference - testing was hard due to bald tyres and rain, although lane changes were easy down with the right foot
Hopefully I'll have a few of these soon!

Gremlin, i can asure u it wont cause it to overheat, if anything the overspeeding causes it to run colder, thats why u need a toyota thrmostat as they r strong and can handle it and work proberly, u can put a new waterpump in but not necasery, also remember to do a water pump u have to take the superchager off to get to the 2 10mm nuts on the back of the waterpump

I know this thread is a bit old, but I was thinking this week (after I got slaughtered by a vtec Integra) to fit an oversized pulley to my ae93 SX GZE.
Anyway after reading about the thermostat i have a question. After doing my conversion in may I have realised that my car always seems to be cold. The only time the temp gets to half way is whenthe car is idling for a while, but as soon as I take off again it goes straight back down, and I mean down, all the way to the line!! Its as if the auto choke is always on. Is it possible that I already have an oversized pulley fitted, and if so, how do I tell??

Well my car isn't running right at the moment, so i know that has something to do with it, but i still wanna leave him to see my brake lights as distant lights.
my car had been idling for 5 minutes or so before the drag so the engine and cooler were hot (top mount), and for some reason it stalled on me too and wouldn't start again for about 30 seconds. I gotta get it tuned properly. I have organised a rerun for a months time and want to make sure he learns his lesson next time

If you are going to the trouble of putting a bigger pully on the charger why not spend a little extra and get an eletric water pump? no need for a thermostat then.. I got an eletric water pump just recently.. it is one of those little black beasts that kinda looks like a turbo..(sorta) i had to buy the control unit seperate, all up i think it cost like 300 for the whole kit from repco altho that was trade, i think for anyone to just walk in and buy one i think it is around the 300 hundred mark or somthing like that. I havent installed it yet but i have been told that it is a noticeable power increase due to the fact that the engine isnt turning the water pump over... just my two cents worth.

I haven't weighed my car, but I have the SX hatchback, so standard I think they are about 1050kg.
I like the sound of the electric water pump, I might try them both then.

To slow the water pump down I made a spacer for the water pump pulley and run it from the front crank pulley instead of the one that runs the S/C. This also requires a little idler pulley to be made just behind the water pump pulley to direct the S/C belt in the right direction and a few other little mods. I dont trust electric water pumps as I have seen them fail.

LadySX. It's possible that you do have the oversized pulley kit and it's over speeding the water pump. Do you know much of the engines history?
It's also possible that the thermostat is stuffed and stuck open. It would then heat up when there is no airflow over the radiator, but cool RIGHT down when moving.
One way to find out, is to heat it up by idling, then take off and get up to top gear. let the engine run as close to idle as possible in top gear. If it cools down, then bets are on that it's the thermostat..............

well problem was diagnosed today. the thermostat is stuffed, the car is running really rich, and to top it off, its only running 3psi!!!! no idea why, still need to investigate that, but i have been sidetracked by the epa issue at hand. But 3psi!!! no wonder the vtech pulled away, my car is virtually n/a at the moment!!!!
