If it's the same as the RA23, the pedal just unclips. Just pull on it and it'll come loose from the floor.

In the TA22 the pedal clips over the accelerator rod! There should be a flap that goes from the top of the pedal, over the rod and clips back on the pedal. I think thats how it works.

Does the TA22 pedal hinge on the floor?

TA22/23, RA23/28/40, all share the same accellerator pedal setup. The pedal is pushed down onto two lugs, which poke through the carpet. The top of the pedal is located onto the linkage in a plastic hoop. Removal: grab the plastic pedal and haul it upwards, it will click out of the lugs, them simply slide the pedal to the left at the top and it wiil slide off the inkage. put your new carpet in, and use a very sharp blade ti cut a crossin the capet over the top of each of the lugs. CAUTION don,t trim any edges off the new carpet untill you have your seats installed, as seats tend to pull the carpet way down into the footwells, trimming too early can result in a really untidy and ill fitting carpet. Regards Chuck

g'day mate,
All the above is how to do it... the only thing i disagree with is that the ra40 has the same accelerator pedal as the earlier models....
While you have the pedal out, do oyurself a favour and go to a wrecker and get a ra40 accelerator pedal. the difference is that these are not floor hinged (ie. they are like most new cars.) it bolts straight in and makes the driving experience that much more pleasant.
Cheers Stew

G'day,
yeah it fits up to the same bolt holes and even connects to the actuating rod at the top too. made my ra28 heaps better to drive....
Don't know what else to tell you?? any more questions i would be happy to answer though.
i have posted this conversion a couple of times over the last year and a abit, and a few people have said they have done it with no probs, so it really is that straight forward.
Good luck Stew

I used an RA60 pedal on my green RA23 because I needed to convert to a cable set-up on the 18R-G. It wasn't as easy to set up as the RA40 pedal, but was still very straight forward. Something to think about if you want to go cable. I'll have to get an RA40 pedal for the new Celica (18R-C).

i had a cable set up when i had the 18rg, but it worked off a pivot in the engine bay. i have a cable now conected to the ra40 pedal. all i did was drill out the little ball at the top of the pedal and rivet a plate to it - too easy and it works just fine with my 1ggte.

I'll have to have a look around for a RA40 pedal then? If you can get one let me know how much. Might save me the trouble of finding one myself.
