i remember once finding an aust mail order site for some 'new' anti rust resin that you paint on after after cutting back all your rust...is supposed to react against any water encountered, and actually set harder because of it, plus it neutralises any rust developing underneath
problem is i cant find it again.
anyone know what its called, or know of an equiv product?
cheers ed

I would be a bit cautious with products like this..
Many rust converting products react with iron oxides to chelate them. This will convert the rust but will not protect against further rusting.
Plus if you are top coating this product (and you will need to to provide ongoing protection) you may have troubles with adhesion, solvent attack on the "resin" etc.
If you want a good job I suggest you use the primer recommended by the manufacturer of the top coat system you are to use. These are likely to contain zinc phosphate or similar to provide ongoing corrosion protection. Plus if it doesn't work you can complain and they may help you. If you havve another product as the first coat they are unlikely to help.
If you own a MA61 I understand your eagerness to protect against rust! At least it's not a Datsun 260Z!

What about the various urethane preparations that foam up in the various cavities? I remember seeing a Japanese guy mixing and putting in this stuff into his JZA70 sills. It kind of ended up like the Selleys "Space Invader" type expanding foam. He was doing it to increase chassis rigidity though.

Apexi are selling a "Super Penguin System" (or something named just as ridiculous) on their Japanese web site.

I also remember Ford putting a special foam in their Falcon B pillars to make them more rigid.

K&N make a brush on rust converter. You can find it a all motor part stores Repco etc. It is in a little plastic jar. Creamy brown in colour. POR 15 also make a great rust proof paint. I had my mini beadblasted and then i painted the shell in it. It is rock hard, hammer tough and where i have grinded or cut metal is the only place it has surface rust on the whole shell after 2 years. The only problem is cost. $250 for 4 litres plus you need a special primer to pain over it.
Great stuff though

Go for it. DO NOT get it on your skin. The only way it comes of is when you take skin off with it. Unbelievable!!
You can get it in small tins and it isn't even two pack so you casn brush it on as well. Follow the instructions and get that tie coat stuff because normal paint does not stick very well but if its hidden mostly by the rubber you could leave it black.

I got this Killrust stuff from good old Bunnings that turned the stuff the rust on my tailgate (well, some of it, its rooted ). It turns into this hard black layer, and it stains your hands!
I tried soap, dishawashing liquid, metho, turps...all nasty shit. Then I went into the laundry, last ditch effort. Bit of "Radiant concentrate" and hot water, the stuff just disappeared, much to my relief. I wa sso relieved because it had run down the paint brush onto my hand and wrist!
