Hello, new to the forum, and this one looks to be a gem....anyway I am in the planning stages of a 4AGE swap in a KP61 Starlet
I have done a 4AGE swap in one of my other cars, so this isn't a completely foreign subject but anyway......Has anyone done this? I know Bill Sherwood is, but I can't view the pics and such on his page, I just need general information about engine and tranny mounts. If anyone has any other information/tips they would like to share please feel free to do so. Any links to any pages with more info would be great too. Thanks
-Nate

Yes I would like information as well. Does the 4a-ge bolt into the KP61 starlet? my friend is picking up a cherry '83 EFI Starlet and wants to swap it. Thanks.

You guys are in the wrong Forum.
The poor deprived Aussies never got RWD Starlets.
Having said that, the 4A is a pretty easy fit. Custom engine mounts, mod gearbox mount and hydraulic clutch (or use a K50 from a 3A motor). Drop the motor in and make mounts to suit.

what the heck. Oz gets everything!
Thanks for the reply. So if mounts, clutch and wiring all have to be custom, might as well spring for the 1g-gte since for some reason in the US the 1g-gte and the 4a-ge complete motorsets are the same price.
Thanks again.

Has been done by Niteparts in Auckland, NZ. Didn't see engine bay pics but did see the single turbo sitting through the bonnet.

You may want to contact Bill Sherwood - I believe his KP-61 Starlet has received the 4AG transplant or is in the process of it ...
Otherwise, try the Club 4AG forums ...

Some pics from my site.

(right engine mount)

(Left engine mount)

(gearbox crossmember mount, extended from stock one)
What makes fitting the gearbox a LOT easier is to use a TA-22 extension housing on the back of the box, as they place the gearstick up the front, rather than the back of the extension housing and so the gearstick comes up out of the existing Starlet gearbox tunnel hole.
Most US guys don't know this, so they cut another hole further back in the tunnel.
I've got a zip file of how to make the engine mounts, email me and I'll send it to you.

Fantastic mounts by Bill Sherwood!
Yep, done 1GGTE with single T67 into KP60(own car)
Sorry, not sure on how to post pics tho
Personally, would not recommend to anyone tho....
Purely the result of too much alcohol, spare parts and a welder... and bored of doing so many 4AGE/turbo conversions.
Considering we ran as stealth with sunvisors, monsoon shields, 145/70/12 wheels with pretty wheel trims and doily's on seats.
Basically a death trap.
Vehicle was dissasembled and sold...

no worries about pics
how much free space would you guesstimate there was in front and behind the 1G?
the 4A in Bills pic makes the bay look a little bigger than i thought tho.. my point of reference is always KE1X

I am new here too!
fit a 4agze in a custom half roll cage or sub-frame at rear of the starlet to make it a MR car,it is gotta be so much fun to drive.I think the AW 11/SW20 MR2 would be a good donor car for such a project!
I have seen people done MR Golf and bike engined MR mini, so i think a MR startlet or echo would be good!!
