Here's a pic of the new cooler on my new Supra which got fitted just before dyno day but because of other complications I couldn't strap it on.

Next dyno day though I will be a definite Very Happy
450HP at the crank is the estimate, not bad for a completely internally stock 7m including original head gasket.

I apologise for my ignorance, but when the intercooler is right in front blocking the whole of the radiator would it limit the cooling ability of the radiator? or the limited air that goes through i/c be enough to cool the hot coolant in the radiator?

Punk- yes that can happen you sometimes have to upgrade your cooling system. My car took 10 minutes to cool down after a dyno run that smoked the tyres on the rollers running 20psi.

Luke its a brand new core from Tony's Make it in metal. He gets them from PWR in queensland i think.

Don't huge intercoolers reduce engine response at low revs and suffer from heat soak traffic?

Well besides that it looks the "ducks guts" (thats a good thing Smile

Re: My new intercooler! Sun, 26 January 2003 03:35 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Olly- yes they do create lag if the new one is substantially bigger than the previous one but it is not noticeable.

Doesn't really bother me when your going mainly for a decent top end power figure. The bigger turbo is a tad laggier so i bigger cooler isn't an issue especially with the power increase ill get from running it.

Bigger intercoolers would suffer less from heatsoak in traffic as they have more surface area to dissipate the heat. These type of cores are extremely good at heat dissipation compared to the factory ones and don't really suffer. I'v got a temperature sensor in the outlet of the intercooler and this new cooler is superior to the two large factory coolers i had weleded together before.

SupraGTE,

How much did you pay for that cooler including end tanks?
I have a R33 GTR cooler and I have had the end tanks modified.
My total will be around $700-800. I will shoot myself if you tell me yours ended up being that price? Im sure your custom core is MUCH better than my standard GTR core. Mad Embarassed

Cheers.

If it's anything like my friend's ARE cooler, it would have cost at least twice that!

1jmx83, add $200 to your higher figure.

I removed the front of the car and the pipes were already fabricated right there.

The core i'm almost definite is from PWR in QLD. Its 540X380X75 excluding the tanks. It's over 750mm including tanks Shocked

Pete, I haven't had a chance to monitor the inlet temps with the laptop yet. Too busy keeping an eye on af ratios and timing so I keep forgetting.

They won't be any lower really anyway. I got this new cooler cause it will flow alot more air with a tiny pressure drop accross it. The previous cooler had the temps with 8deg C of ambient but with a massive pressure drop. Check out the thickness of the runners in the pic below Shocked

Paul, you know the bit that goes from near the bonnet latch to the rad support down the bottom, do you still have that? Or did you remove it?
