suspension advice needed!! Sat, 25 January 2003 01:46 Go to next message
OK.... it is definatley time for me to lower the mini 4wd (that being my corolla ae92.... with the 17's its just ridiculous).

now i have a few options but i am leaning towards a set of king springs...

should i go for the lows or the super lows?? how much will each lower the car respectivley? will the superlows be too low to maintain good drivability?? (ie can i still go over speed humps and carpark ramps?

corolla owners....... HELP?!!!!

james

hey, king springs' website sux for info.

i found this:
http://www.gsad.com.au/prodinfo2.html
It says the low springs will lower about 30mm and that the super lows will lower around 40-50mm. That's for a chrysler neon though.

If u need ur shocks to last as long as possible, just get the lows..at least it'll look better than standard height.

james, you will be way better off getting a set of super lows, thats what i had in my corolla and that will be plenty, the lows just did not go low enough to make it look good, also the super lows are a very tight spring and help also to keep the car tighter in and out of corners.
i will talk to my mate tonight and he will get the price from his dad.

conflicting advice is being given to me on this topic..

some say with the 17's i should go for lows cos super lows will be too low and i will need th guards rolled ans super stiff shocks.

others say they will be fine.

others are telling me to just get lows cos superlows wiill be illegally low??

i thnk i am off to suspension city tomoro..... damn its 40 degrees here tomoro.... feck.

can some ae92 owners plz plz plz plz plz tell me what suspension setups (and wheels) they have.

thanks

I had an ST162 Celica which uses the same springs as an AE92 corolla and so my experiences may help.

I had 17 inch wheels and put in the King Spring Super low springs.

The front shocks were permenantly compressed as the springs were to low. Was like there was no suspension at all. This ended up pumping all the gas out of the shocks. You really should change your shocks as well if you go for the supper low springs.

The rear wasn't too bad.

With one or two people the guards rarely scrubbed unless you hit a bump mid corner. With four people in the car (max of a 162 celica) it could create problems, especially in carparks.

Car handled very well on smooth roads, was a bit rough on bumpy stuff though. Not much ground clearence, pretty sure it would have been illegal but was never troubled about it.

Looked very nice Cool .

Remember the Celica guards would be a fair bit bigger than the corolla's. Keep this in mind before making a decision. Personally, if put in the same position again I would probably just go for the Low springs but I don't regret my decision at all.

I have KYB shocks in my corolla (ae82 twinky) and they kick ass, a little cheaper than koni's but alot of people say they are just as good in most respects (except you can't rebuild/adjust them). I am running them on lovell springs and it drives like a dream Smile It is definately better than the full whiteline kit my mate has in his old twinky
