jzx81 cresta/mark II half cut? Sun, 26 January 2003 12:44 Go to next message
Would the jzx81 cresta or mark II half cut be suitable for a 1jz-gte swap into an australian cressida? they're the same platform as the jzx81 chaser aren't they? They look very similar.

Or try looking for a Mark II in sydney there are a few!

It would save you a lot of hassle...Especially buying a cressida and then just ditching the engine. Most of us have done it cos of problems with the engine...(Blown head gasket. etc)

They are good cars, just the Mark II is now available...

By the way there is a high difficulty with the Chaser brakes...The discs are not available in australia at all...Nothing even comes close to the specs of them...I had worn discs and I couldn't get any replacements. Lucky the old brakes from the cressida fit...

mx83toy...How are your brakes??? If you know where to get these discs can you let me know? I've been to hell and back trying to find some. What else should I need to know to keep the engineer smiling???

The problem with that SEVS thing is now I can't import a car thats not on the SEVS registry Sad If I could find a good priced Mark II or Cresta it'd be okay though, but panels lights etc would be a nightmare to find. As to the brakes, didn't someone fit MA70 brakes? that'd be the way to go parts wise. But I do like the cressida lot, and there are some good low mileage ones, if only the old couples driving them would sell them Smile

given that the parts for mark 2 would be impossible to find, they are bloody hard to find for the Cressida too, I've found it hard to source tail lights and panels that fit, there are two models of the MX83 as well which adds to difficulties, I had to go back to the wrecker i dealt with in sydney to get the right parts and it took him a long time to find them. So yeah they're hard cars. I'm looking at the bigger brakes too, I'm interested to know what mx83toy has done about his brakes...(???)

ollygt - the different "R" model I havent heard of. I know both models that are slightly different are the same MX83. However the panels and the wiring are different in the two, even some of the wiring diagrams I had from Grant had slight differences. The major differences are cosmetic, and they cannot be converted as I found out. The 89 model had a lip on the front bumper and the 91 does not, The 89 model also has taillights that go all the way to the numberplate which is inset into the rear of the car, where as there is about 2 1/2 inches between the tail lights and the number plate on the 91 model, surrounded by a black shroud, which is not inset like the 89 model. I can now pick the difference between the two, however before I didn't really notice. They also share wheels as well to make it more difficult....

mx83toy...I hope you dont have too much trouble getting new front discs... When it comes time I'd love it if you told me how to get them too! Smile I have tried everywhere in canberra, only jap wreckers would have them and they'd even be second hand...I'm looking at upgrades.

Just to avoid confusion he is talking about a "JZX81"...not JXZ81...which to my knowledge does not exist.

To anyone attempting this convertion i would suggest not dealing with asian auto spares.
The 1/2 cut which i have recieved from them for my convertion had 2 rooted turbos, torn intercooler pipes, leaking radiator, and a cracked water jacket in the head.
This is the second chaser 1/2 cut to come out of asian with the same problems.
BUYER BEWARE!!!
Dont waste your money with asian autos....

I've hear ppl say if you are getting a half-cut make sure you see it running before you buy it.

dba would have to make custom ones up from blanks, which would cost me close to a grand, stuff that!

I'm going to try and upgrade the brakes...

Im looking at trying to source the jzx81 front bumper from a MarkII or a Chaser.
Does anyone have one laying around after a conversion available for sale or know any good part importers i could go through?

FWIW,
I've got a JZX-90 half-cut at Toysport (just arrived) waiting for my final payment and shipping. They are OK to deal with and I'll let you know what the quality of the half-cut is like when I get it in a couple of weeks. Though it probably is a bit of a lucky dip - especially when you have to order sight-unseen from inter-state)

OH NO!!! I just took my JZX81 Mark II front bumper to the tip last weekend!!! Mad I knew that would happen! Damn it oh well...
I still have the two front guards (would need some work), bonnet, headlights, grill, and the strip that goes under headlights and grill. The bumper was just taking up too much room so I tossed it. It had a little bit of rust anyway. Is any of this stuff any good to you speakafreaker??
