My Soarer needs new Air Cond. gas. I was wondering what kind of gas would it have in it already? It's a December 1991 model.
I have access to the old type gas for free and was wondering if I could put it in or not?
I think it's RP___something gas??!?!?!
Thanks guys

My Soarer has R134a refrigerant from memory. This is the new legal stuff. Not sure what it came with from Japan though.

Either way you go the dryer will need to be replaced unless it was sealed when disconnected (unlikely) so as long as the system is cleaned/purged either gas should run I believe unless someone knows if the compressor is gas specific. But I don;t think so as they just retrofit the gas and only the lube is different betwee gasses.

I think I might need a new bearing too. It makes quite a bit on noise when on. And it's not REALLY cold...just nice though but could be better. And when it's been on for around an hour the A/C light blinks. I thought it was stuffed when it first happened but I actually fiddled with one of the throttle cables (not sure which one near the cruse controll area) and this turned the A/C back on. It wasn't just a coincidence either....i've done it a few times now.
Any ideas what that could be??

Being 91 it would have originally come out with R-12 (the old gas.) Chances are you will not be able to get a hold of this gas because they don't make it anymore and anyone that still has some is probably keeping if to themselves. Reason being is that this works the best as a refrigerant.
The vehicle may have been retrofitted to the new gas, if so it will be 134A. The only other option is a replacement blend gas which i don't recommend.
If your compressor is noisy when the a/c is on then it is probably on its way out and the fact that you said it stopped and the a/c light was flashing is another good indicator that it is stuffed
Hope this helps.

I saw a retired A/C guy and he said that I need a new compressor.
I rang my dad who is in Brisbane at the moment and he found a place up there that said he will sell me a 2nd hand one of a 1/2 cut for $275. He said the 1/2 cut only has 80,000k's...the same as my car with a broken A/C
What should I do??
P.S. The retired A/C guy said he has so much R-12 he doesn't know what to do with it!!!
WOOO HOOO
