damn it, first i get the engine, i was supposed to believe it was ok, turns out it has a dead head gasket, rooted bearings and rings, cracked tuned lenght extractors, dead rear carb, dead starter and alternator, now i have been palmed off a points dizzy.

Well maybe not. The early one's had point's dizzy's the later one's should be elec. I think it goes something like -
18RG = Carby + points dizzy
18RGU = Carby + elec dizzy
There was also the 18RGEU = EFI + elec dizzy
Some part of the engine code indicates elec. ignition. The "U" I think??? Check that you in fact have an 18RG"U" and not just an 18RG (earlier model)
I've lent out my 18RG manual so I can't check at the moment and I'm not even sure that info is in there anyway.

He's asking about an 18R-GU, and 18R-GU's definitely have electronic dizzy's. Yes, 18R-G's have points but that's not what's being asked here.
