18RGEU vs 3SGE

If you wanted to chuck in an EFI engine into an RA2x celica which engine would you choose and why? 18RGEU slots straight in no worries easy to do. 3SGE gives a bit more power(??) Do you have to do any mods ie brakes and stuff with the 3SGE.
Which engine would you choose are 3SGE's easier to come by cause I realise that the 18RGEYU is getting old
Just want some opinions, thanks.

The 3S is definitely the better engine, no doubt about that. It's newer, more powerful, more performance parts are available, and of course there's a turbocharged version available if that's what you prefer. Unfortunately they were all made in east-west configuration up until recently, which means you'll have some dramas getting it to work in a north-south configuration. It's definitely nowhere near as easy as the 18R-G conversion, which as you say bolts right in.
Your other option is to buy a north-south 3S-GE from an Altezza RS200, which even comes with a 6-speed gearbox. This is a late-model engine though so it'll cost ya big.

Or a 1G-GE (I am a N/A man) Easier than fiddling with a 3S-GE, does the 1G-GE put out more power than a 3S?

Depends what model.
The 1GGE comes with roughly 114kW, whereas the 3SGE is available from 103kW up to like 147kW.

if u have the money go the RS200 BEAMS 3S-GE
if u consider the earlier version of the 3S-GE (ie FWD config) then it is cheaper and much less trouble to put in a 1G-GE..

Whilst it would be great fun to go berserk on a 1GGE, you would be a pioneer (although I suspect you'd just lean very heavily on the large range of 4AGE stuff out there). The 3SGE is very heavily supported in Japan with a large range of delightful aftermarket go fast goodies being readily available.
