Hands up all those people who have a car manual for their car?
I have and I refer to it before I go make a goose out of myself by asking online. And im a Girl! Shocked
I have read some silly questions on some forums which I think a manual could have answered. Confused
But of course on the other side of the coin there is others which the manual doesnt help with at all and its nice to know there is help out there.
Well its just my 2 cents worth.. Smile

Couldn't find anything for a 1G-GTE.

My motto is "If in doubt see dad" it is really handy having a mechanic father Very Happy

Actualy, i have 3:

Hayes
Max Ellrys
Gregorys

They all seem to cover things in slightly different ways. Some cover the twin cam, some dont.

Some of the stuff they don't answer is quite simple, and wouldnt have been hard to include.

Craig.

I have manuals but I find that parts books are better as they usually show a totally exploded view, how every thing goes together (and comes apart) and names all the parts with pics and the order they go together.
Manuals can be good. They tell you how you should take something out but there may be a quicker way to do the same job. But if you get stock trying to shortcut a removal of something the manual can get you out of trouble. And they list torque and clearance specs.

I have a manual, but our car are much more fun, (and sometimes more reliable), when set up a little differently to when they left the factory. It helps to be able to talk to people who have some experience to see if there is a better way of doing things.

Ive got several for my car and for any car ive ever owned. I cant help but collect them from markets etc. I think the most ive ever paid for one is about $10. Always using them as sikmr2 said its a good reference point.

Truthfully, I do not have a workshop manual for my car, this is the first car I have not had one for, Problem being that to date the cheapest quote I've had for one is $580 + gst, I've been qutoed less for A jap import engine!!
If any one out there has workshop manual realistically priced (and in english) for a '93 MR2 Pleeeeeeeeeease lemme know where you got it.

NoTE :- for those NRMA members out there, there is a technical service available where they will Fax you pages from toyota's WSM's if you can tell them what it is you need to do.

punkdefender,
considering the Soarer was never released outside of Japan, I highly doubt there would be an english version.
If you do find out, give me a buzz Very Happy

the manuals are helpful as a guideline, but dont take them as gospel... the people who write them are good mechanics, but not specialists in the cars.

for example, I looked in my supra manual on how to change the rear diff seal. Manual says just change it. But post here, and someone with a lot more knowledge (ok, it's paul (supragte)) tells me it's more complicated, and if I had just replaced the seal it'd go within 1000km again.

so be a little wary.
plus having a 1jz engine doesn'r help matters

Re: Hands Up Sun, 02 February 2003 11:36 Go to previous message
i found hanes manuals are a bit useless in their specifications. my cylinders measure about 0.2mm smaller than they say in the manual. Confused im kinda glad they arnt to speck otherwise the pistons would be a little slopy in the cylinders. i recon it must have somthin to do with the toyota zones.

it also has a habit of saying "take it to a profesional mechanic". i dont mean to insult any mechanics here but quite frankly, i recon i could do a better, more complete job than most mechanics anyway (unless they were mates. then they might be stuffed doing a PROPER job for a change)
