The official response from all insurance agencies is "Your 18 and you want to insure what? " At which you reply
If it is a standard turbo equipped car, just ring around and get some quotes. If they don't want to deal with you, ask them which insurance companies do insure younger drivers. They are all trying to target a specific demographic and price their policies accordingly.
If it is non standard and a daily driver then the only company that will touch it is "mycar" insurance, I can't remember their number but they are in the phone book. They specialize in policies for younger drivers, modified cars and people with less than perfect driving records.
If it is a weekend warrior then talk to shannons.
Best of luck

Bounty - I have my 28 insured with My-car. It is a listed policy, meaning that it is insured for the value of the standard car plus any mods listed on the policy (1G, brakes, interior etc) I am 29, so I have a head start there, but at $1300p/a I thought it was reasonable.

G'day,
i had my daily driver insured with shannons for $9000 agreed value, with all thiings covered for their respective values motor, wheels, stereo, etc. the premium was just over $1000, but i did have no claim bonus which they gave me for have had 3rd party property for 2 years with nrma. and i'm under 25.
