Up there for thinking

Yesterday I was driving along in that stinking hot weather (~45degC @ Richmond) and the car was getting really hot.
My 28 as a lot of you know has a 1G-GTE, however it is still running the standard radiator. This concerned me a little when I bought it but I was assured that it was up to the tast. Since then I have installed a thermostat (82degC) and thermofan (on at 95degC) and it runs a fair bit hotter now than it did then (stone cold - so thats what the blue smoke was )
Anyhow compared to the thermostat and fan temps on the guage, I guess it was running at about 120degC yesterday and I was starting to get worried.
Thats when the engineer side of me cuts in and I'm thinking all technical like........ need to cool it down...........need better flow through radiator.........thinking about the shape of the front end........should be a low pressure system at the aft end of the bonnet under the windscreen............what if I pop the bonnet...........lets give it a go.
Within about 2 minutes the temperature was down to about 95 and I was driving around with a big grin on my face (as usual).
Moral of the story - You just can't beat the classic lines of an RA28

i love the way your turn engineering into the beauty of the RRA28 anthony!! this is the type of engineer i wish to become
we should turn this into a tech article or something!!

now why didnt i think of that? I have heard of some race cars actually taking air for the induction from the plennum chamber just under the windscreen for this very same reason
low pressure = colder air

low pressure = anti-turbo = yuck
I prefer the F1 approach. A big bucket pointing forward shoving as much cold air down it's throat as possible.

The area under the windscreen is actually a high pressure area... this is why it's sometimes used to feed the induction system.

Yeah, depending upon the angles, is normally a high pressure area...

Actually now that i really think about it you guys are right the area in that chamber is high pressure its the faster moving air above the bonet, the windscreen and over the roof that is low pressure because its moving faster.
Sometimes i confuse myself.
Who am i?
Whats my name?
Why am i here?
