LSD or Not LSD, that is the question

Hey I bought a GZE box, just wanting to confirm if it is lsd or not. I put drive shafts in the box, turn them and both go forward. Then sometimes with no pressure on them one will go backward. But holding one tight and spining the other the other doesnt go anywhere. I have no idea of any other way to tell if its lsd. And whats the go with the drive shafts. My normal non lsd ae92 gze's fit.
P.s the box isnt in the car, just on the ground.
Please helpppppppppppppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

looks very unlikely to be a lsd........bugger
is it 5 or 6 speed? if its a 6 speed it might be a knackered lsd,
bigger shafts....same splines, hence they fit

Its not in the car yet so pull it apart and stop guessing. You may learn about gearboxes in the process, allthough this can take time you may not have. And you may get in trouble putting it back together, but thats how I always do it.

Make sure its in nuetral, grab one shaft and they should both spin the same way, and you should be able to grab one and it should feel like a solid shaft.
An LSD is a Limited Slip Differential - with a normal diff, the bulk of power goes to the wheel with the least grip (thats why the one stuck in the mud always spins!). The idea of a limited slipper is to add some kind of device (clutches, cones, viscous pack, etc.) between the axles to allow both of them to grip to a reasonable extent at all times, while still allowing the car to be steering easily, which is why the diff is there in the first place. Basically an LSD has 2 purposes:
1. To improve traction, meaning some torque goes to both wheels not all to one spinning wheel
2. To allow some of us fools to slide the arse end of our cars all over the place. Highly stupid practice, of course

Yes i would be wairy about that kind of practice tho, i was just a witness to the bad side of this early thismorning when my friends r31 skyline got outta shape at about 90 around an s bend, lost it into slide, hit kerb and flipped into a ETSA power pole. Luckily we were all able to live to tell the tale, but it was quite scary in a passenger seat above your friend who is out cold and the car tipped on its side.
Be carefull with your car and life, lsd or no lsd. its not worth it on the road, when there are tracks and circuits made for this purpose.
Peace
(i still want lsd in my ra28 )

I just spent a day on the track with a locked diff. It was great and much less stressfull to control. I don't think I actualy spun out once, just held the drift. If ever I am out of shape on the road, I prefer it with a locked diff. More control.
