1ggte experts.......
i have a pair of 1ggte blocks in the garage.....nothing unusual there. but, one block is real shiny, has different ribbing and markings, and weighs about 10kg (maybe "more")less than the other??????
has anyone come across an alloy 1ggte block before. apart from this one all the others i have seen are definitely cast iron.
also the rear engine mount bosses on the block are 10MM further forward, mounting the block 10MM further back in the engine bay........that one puzzled me!
both blocks are gen 3 (- 1992? i think.)
FWIW, when i was checking out how things work i had a look at the sandwich plate between block and oil filter. it MOST DEFINITELY does not pump oil, it is a water cooler for the oil filter (as best i can tell). when i pumped compressed air thru the cooling system it was coming out of the sandwich plate..do not connect it to the oil system.
i look forward to any thoughts on these matters as i can still hold an apple in my hand and see an orange. (good smoke this!!)

doesn't the 1g out of a lexus something or other have an alloy block.
Tho it is probably a east west engine.
Just a thought.

The IS200 has a 1G-FE engine, but I'm pretty sure it still has a cast iron block. The 1G is an inline six so you're unlikely to see it in east-west configuration!
