Camry Fuel Tank

Just curious if anyone else who's driven a SV21 camry (around 1990) has got fuel surge from it. Cos no matter how hard i try, i can't get my camry to get any fuel surge. Both my parents cars get it just under a 1/4 tank and they are new (98 pulsar & 00 Magna), whereas ive driven mine hard under "E" and nothings happened. Not that im complaining or anything, I'm just curious if its the design of the tank or if its just cos the 3S-FE doesn't have that great a fuel demand under full-throttle.

I was able to get my old VCV10 (widebody) Vienta to do it.
Wait until the fuel was below 1/4 and take a hard right hand turn (e.g. at a roundabout at about 40km/h) and it would surge. Not a nice feeling at all.

Never had that happen in five years of owning mine. Whether driving it hard or conservatively just under empty and it makes no difference.
These engines seem to have remarkable economy, drove 490 km mainly highway use on a tank full

Does the Camry have a 60L tank?
500km with highway driving doesn't sound that much.
I used to get that from my Turbo auto Liberty wagon which has the same size tank.
You don't want to know what range I get out of my Caldina though.

The camry has a 55L tank, and i can get 700km out of a optimax if im on the highway. So i guess its just the design, petrol tank design going backwards in new cars?? dads magna is scary when you get fuel surge, massive liftoff oversteer

another happy sv21 owner here
never experienced any of that
my only worry at the moment is the really noisy exhaust after i went to rally australia (may be a dent or a cover rubbing the pipe...)

Surging is when the fuel pump can't supply the required fuel to the engine.
In my case (as above), the fuel rushes to the opposide side of the fuel tank that the pump is getting fuel from, and sucks air instead. Definitely NOT a good thing.
