Hmm.....aftermarket CT26 on a 1G-GTE....

Pros:
POWER!!!!!!

Cons:
Wee bit of extra lag to start with. Twin turbos were generally made to help reduce lag. But the big single turbo should go hard once it starts spinning enough.

Once that thing starts spooling, watch out.

A guy in the NZ supra club has air filter, exhaust and a single CT26 and gets about 155kW at the wheels, close to 210HP. That's at the WHEELS, rather than FLYWHEEL.

I think he may be running 14psi of boost.

Thats about the figure that some of the Gen3 1GGTE's have put out on stock turbos on 14psi...I don't really see the point of the single-turbo conversion, that sacrifices some low end power/torque, yet doesn't make up for it somewhere else.

A 7M-GTE CT26 should be capable of 300 rwhp, which I'm sure is a lot more than the stock twins can flow. I expect there would be a fair amount of lag though; it has a pretty big exhaust housing for a 2 litre engine.

A 3S-GTE CT26 probably wouldn't be laggy, but I don't think this would be much of an improvement on the stock twins.

Watch the little CT12's pop when you run 'em at 14psi though. Laughing

The early 90's 1G-GTE's produce about 210HP at the flywheel stock standard.

The guy upgraded to the larger CT26 turbo because of the fact that the little CT12's CAN'T handle 14psi all the time.

He's not using the CT26 to the full potential, but then, he needs to actually know where to go from after upgrading intake & exhaust. Unless he wants to actually damage his engine. Which brings me to my first post a little higher up....

What upgrades are available for the 1G-GTE?

I was lucky they were on the engine, and I've only seen one other pair. Basically, after filtering through the Japlish (or Engrish as Nark calls it Razz) that spewed out when using Babelfish on the Blitz site, they are high-flowed and strengthened CT12's, and they bolt onto the original manifold.

Should be fun...when the bloody engine comes Sad Which is hopefully today.

i think u might find that the ct12's can and do run 14psi all day everyday. Lots of ppl on here run them at 14psi without problems.
I think someone is running them at 16psi for 2 years now without a problem.
Where did u get the blitz turbo setup from frank ???
how long ago. I just missed out on a set with engine in a front cut about 6 months ago.
Brett.

CT12's don't have the fragile ceramic wheels of the 1JZGTE's CT12A's. They are small, so they may not be efficient at 14psi, but I haven't heard of someone destroying them.

I bought the engine complete with the Blitz turbos from Japanese Motorsport in Adelaide. I put the deposit on it at the start of November and paid it off half way through January.

I hate un-informed ppl getting on here and talking bout shit they know NOTHING about.

Daemoin,
I ran my TT's on 14psi, all day, every day for nearly 18 months, with absolutely NO problems. And they are still in excellent working order. I know of a few other ppl doing the same thing, and also having no problems.

A single turbo 1G would be PHAT. That is the path i will be taking once i have reached the maximum ability of the new TT setup.

Go for a 5-600hp GT30 or GT30/35.

Fuck lag when you have the top end not to care about it!!!

I was thinking maybe at getting a Garrett GT25R, rated to 450hp when I've found the limits of the Blitz turbos.

If you're going for a big turbo, it's best to get a rollerbearing turbo. This will cut down the lag.

But money comes into the equation then... They're rather expensive... And can't be rebuilt.
