What are your thoughts on K&N??? I am interested in getting an air filter for performance reasons only. I had a looka t some tests and Apex'i came out the best followed by K&N... Where can i get a filter and the care kit???

If size matters (and if you got the room to put it) you can get a truly huge K&N as opposed to the standard size Apexi filter.
Also I think the K&N's are a lot cheaper.

Whats the advantage of a huge filter??? i don't really have the space to put a huge one... My engine bay is already choccas... We fumbled around for about 1/2 hour to try and find a spot for the alarm siren...
Thanks...

Just go to any 'auto' place. They should have them/be able to get them. I don't recommend supercheap though. They wanted a clear $40 more than what I paid elsewhere. I got a replacement panel filter for the beast. At the time it was $120, your $$$ will vary of course depending on what you get. As for the care kit, you should be able to get that at the place you get the filter.

(in theory) The bigger the filter area, the less restriction the air has getting through. This is why filter manufacturers try to increase the area by pleating the material. There are diminishing returns to this though, and a HUGE filter may not have much less of a pressure drop across it than one that is adequately sized.

Also, as Apollo mentioned, you don't need to get a Pod replacement, You can replace the standard paper filter with a panel replacement by K&N. The advantage would be also no need to keep ditching out clogged filters - just wash and re-oil.

From a perforance point of view, a pod filter will not do much, on its own, i have a k&n on my proton and about the best increse was the sound it lets the car make, i doubt if there would be more of a performance gain in brands though if you do not pipe up a cold air system there would be not point for a little performance gain, my opinion on k&n though it does the job for me.

i personally dont like the goo type filter.. they are very messy.
hardtoclean...compared to the K&N.. wash with water.. dry andspray on the filter liquid...
thats my experience with finer filter.. and i assume it is thew same with uniflow filters....

hey celica mad,
my father, an ex mechanic, said that it is better to wash foam filters in petrol, not turpentine.
I trust him on this one. Maybe you could give it a go.
Anyhoo,
martin
