Sticking Trip meter Thu, 06 February 2003 03:09 Go to next message
My damm Trip meter keeps sticking and I have no idea why!

I had it out the other day and I lined all the numbers back up (thought it might have been one number just a little out of alignment?). I wasn't really keen to take the back off the cluster as it look like a bout 100 screws (a little exaggeration...).

Also how do you get the fan speed controller out? My low speed setting doesn't work and I was going to get it out and solder the low resistance coil back together but I can't get it out! Does it plug in or will I have to cut it out and the put it back in after I have fixed it?

Anyway any ideas on how to fix either of these easily?

Cheers
Wilbo

The trip meter i cant help you with, but the fan switch SHOULD come out without having to be cut out... you just need to pull your dash fascia panel(s) off... this is usually a heap of phillips head screws spred out all over the place... just remember if it dont come easy, look for what is jamming it... you dont wanna make the same mistake i made and snap the fascia by pulling it too hard... Razz (NOTE: Check behind the ashtray... there are usually a couple of screws there)

Yeah I've had all the fascia and that out before, but there is 1/10 of a poofteenth of room to work with and i just couldn't seem to get thing to come out, was like it didn't have a plug was just part of the wiring...did yours have a plug?

Yeah I might have to look at disconnecting the vent and heat controls so I can get the whole thing out. Was trying to take the easy way to avoid breaking something that wasn't already broken so the less I have to remove / touch the better!

Will have a better look tomorrow and see if taking the dash out will help of something, anything so I can get a hand down there.

its most likely going to be your fan speed resistor. usually behind the glovebox. This is alot easier to remove and check first.

What sort of car is this for - make and year please.

Its and 1981 Toyota Cressida MX62

I thought that the resistor was in the little thing that you move? Or is that just a switch for the resistors?

AHH the resistors should are under the glove box right next to the blower!

UPDATE: Blower is fixed, I now have 4 fan speed settings Very Happy (PS it was a PITA to get the resistor wire connected again Mad )

Cheers
