icon4.gif  RA60 Wheel Widths + Offset (Supra 14x7"??) Thu, 06 February 2003 11:42 Go to next message
To anyone running wide (+7") rims on an ra60 celica, can you please tell me what kind of offset you used to get it on, and how much space you have left between the wheel/tyre and strut.

in particular, if there's anyone running ma61 (mkii) supra rims on an ra60 (14x7" +8mm offset) can you please let me know (as accurately as possible) what kind of clearance there is between the edge of the rim and the strut (NOT the tyre sidewall)

thanks HEAPS

cheers

I believe the offset is +8mm like you said. I dont think there's much room left between the wheel and the strut but i'm running skinny tyres so they're could be more probs' with the fat tyres.
I'm running 195/60 all round. I put on skinny tyres as the tyre woz hitting the outer guard lip on bumps and I can't afford to put wheel flares on it.

Hmm, hadn't noticed this before. I don't have Supra wheels, but I've got the 15" Soarer rims. Even with their +20mm offset, I've got over 20mm of clearance between them and the strut.

Hi.
If it makes you feel better, in the US the flared Celica GTS got the 7" wheels, and the suspension is identical to our celicas. The offset is perfect cos they were designed for our cars. After driving with the stock 5.5"s and going to the 7"s, I can tell you it certainly feels like the suspension was designed for the 7" rims rather than the 5.5"s. Feels a whole lot better.

So no problems between wheel & strut. The only problems will be the less wheel arch clearance because of no flares.

I have Supra rims on my celica, lowered ~1" and no problems with 205/60s. In fact it looks quite undertyred. I have heard that lowered and 215s may scrub. FWIW the stock tyres on a GTS are 225 somethings.

Are you trying to find out at the rear or the front? I haver an IRS rear end but i'll help you out if I can.

I've got 235/45R17 tyres on 7.5" rims in the back. My car is lowered 2" and it certainly doesn't scrub in the back unless I'm going crookedly up a steep driveway.

The wheels sit pretty far in too.

I also have 215/40R17s on the front and they NEVER scrub. 215/45R17s used to scrub during mid-corner bumps.

You reckon there's any chance of finding the offset of your rims Nark? Even measuring them would be great!

Shit, that was easy.

Nark - can I have yer engine

*on one knee* pleeeeeeese

LOL

I'm interested in those 16x7.5 Remotecs that are for sale at the moment, but the offset is +30. My current 14x7 Supra rims have an offset of +8... so I figure that even with wider wheels, +30 is going to tuck in a lot more. They must be a different offset to your 17x7.5"s, cos I figure yours stick out more than Supra rims.

Hey guys,
Had the wheels off while I was changing my diff. Did a quick measure up (lining up by eye so there's a HUGE margin of error here).
Offset that I got was +20mm. I wouldn't have thought that'd fit...
The wheels DO sit really close to the strut though.

One day, while I'm getting my tyres changed, I'll measure it up again properly. +20mm sounds way too big.

Anyone know the standard offset of the RA60 mags? And how far away they sit from the strut?

[EDIT: Geez, just noticed that it's one year to the day from Ed's last post!]

20mm would probably just fit, my rims are +20mm in 15x6" and don't have a *whole* lot of clearance. You'd probably find its between the 15-20mm mark.
