hey guys....in the engine guide on this site, it says its possible to put a 7M into a AE86. Has anyone on here seen one like this, or done it themselves. What extra work was required and was the end result worth it. Also are there any issues about the legality of it??

I would tend to agree with RobRA40, find out would is legal and waht isnt, i believe some of the laws changed about 2-3mths ago, ive had a sprinter and a 7m in my garage at the same time and i think you would have the move the fire wall a fare bit to make it fit, there are easier ways of putting power into a sprinter, it just needs a little research first.
Good luck with it all.

Wow, let's take a light, well-balanced chassis and shove a heavy cast-iron six in its nose. Great idea, NOT!
This engine conversion is definitely not legal in Qld or NSW, but I don't know about Victoria; as mentioned above, you should check with the relevant authorities before you make any plans.
Legalities aside, this is not a good idea. The AE86 has a short engine bay, so you'd definitely need to move the firewall (read: major re-engineering) to make a 7M fit. And even if you succeeded, you'd wind up with a car that can't turn or stop, and the torque would probably twist the frame into a pretzel the first time it came on boost. There are better ways to make an AE86 fast!

If it wasn't such a hassle, one would think a 2MZ-FE would be a good proposition for a sprinter...with a nice 5-speed behind it.
Certainly the weight and it's placement would have to be close to/as good as most replacement 4's?

I reckon one of them would be sweet in an old Celica also. Problem is hooking up a RWD gearbox (none exist from the factory) plus sorting out manifolding... it wouldn't be cheap.

...Thus the reference to "such a hassle"...
Still, if money (and time) wasn't an object...

Hey, don't be discouraged - after all, the authorities allowed Ford to produce the 4.1 litre cortina!
(I still think a 7M into an AE86 is a silly idea! )
