would the 22RE ecu be a suitable replacement for the 18RGEU standard comp? does it need an AFM?

im not sure, but its a possibility that it may be a good option.. Im going to use a 22Re AFM with my stocky 18rge computer, the 22re ecu should be able to run the 18rg, just need to find someone who has done it to se what they encountered when tuning etc..

yeah true. well how different are the engines? apart from capacity, the injectors would work the same as well as the other sensors. the 18RGEU didnt have VVT or anything like that did it?

This has been done before with good results. You should get on the OCC list at www.celicas.org and ask there; there should be at least one person there with the information you need.
