Laughing Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Laughing

Yeehaa! Smile It's running and I drove it last night, it's amazing, just totally blowin me away!!!! Nothing can wipe the cheesy ass grin off my face...
A quick thanks to all you toymods guys who've been such great helps over the past few months and year, I've learnt so much from you and I am extremely thankful, the convo wouldn't have happened without your help.

I have one question, (hence the reason this post is in the tech section) I have the O/D Light flashing on the dash, which is an error code, now I have some of the info Grant sent me and it says that it could be speed sensor one or two however...
Speedo works (Runs off SP1)
Cruise works (Runs off SP2)

So could there be a problem with the fact that cruise is sapping power from the sp2 line or something?
Or it could be a solenoid?
Anyone out there have this happen? How did you resolve it?
Thanks.

Ok did the diagnostics thing and have confirmation on the SP2 Sensor being out compared to the SP1 sensor according to the ecu...which I dont understand as if one is out then the other would be too, I assume that it thinks the one with lower register is the one that is malfunctioning. However the cruise is working off the SP2...
So my questions are...
Anyone have a spare Speed Sensor 2 lying around?
And for Grant. Does the input to the cruise control take so much current that I should wire up some sort of op amp to stop the ecu complaining?

Am in the process of disconnecting the cruise for more troubleshooting.

Just do what homer does to the check engine light.

Put a bit of black tape over it. Razz

Speed Sensors Wed, 12 February 2003 00:21 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Farren,

As the fault code indicates, you have no signal from SP2 to the ECU. This is a common problem as the Chaser (and Cressida) use a unique secondary speed sensor that cannot be fed directly into the ECU. Cruise control definitely does not operate from the secondary speed sensor; only the primary speed sensor. I'll explain:

All Toyota's use 2 speed sensors; SP1 being the primary speed sensor and SP2 being the secondary or backup speed sensor. SP1 is used for things like Engine/Auto ECU, Cruise Control, A/C and Power Steer while SP2 is used as a backup to allow the auto to still shift (and get you back home).

Chasers (and Australian Cressida's) are a special case. SP2 is actually a multi-tooth sensor primarily used to act as the rear ABS sensor. The ABS computer then converts this signal and sends it to the engine ecu as the backup speed sensor. Unless you have ABS on your Cressida you will not be able to use this sensor.

If you have the original box and your Cressida does NOT have ABS, you can swap the sensors to provide you with the backup signal the ecu is looking for.

Ok I do have ABS on the car, and I've tested it and it worked (to my surprise...)
So now what can I do to eliminate the flashing?
I seem to remember hooking the SP2 signal to the Cruise (???)
and the cruise works so I'm confused.
I can understand what you are saying but something doesn't add up. I'll have another look when I get home to confirm.

If you have hooked up SP2 to the cruise then you probably missed connecting to the ecu. I would connect SP1 to cruise and connect SP2 to the ecu.
