Hi all, first off does anyone have any really good links or info for the A342E
Second.. i know that most autos when powerbraking will start to spin the wheels at about 1800. The TSRM states that with both the footbrake and the handbrake on that the rear wheels will start to spin at about 1800 rpm, and if they dont then there is a problem... mine dont.. even at 2400 the rear wheels arent showing any signs of life whatsoever, even with light pressure on the brakes. I also get appalling takeoffs on a normal start which leads me to believe i have a prob.
If you have an A342E what is the result when you do the same? Do your rears start to spin up at all? info on the A342E fitted to the JZA70 is impossible to find.
cheers

Does it change gears like it's running in beer instead of ATF (like its drunk!)? If so, sounds like the poor trans has been cooked and needs either a rebuild or replacement (probably cheaper). The A340's tend to get pretty bad after they've been abused without adequate cooling.

Take a look at the automatic transmission pages on http://planetsoarer.com
Most of it should still be applicable to your box as the A342 and A340 should be quite similar.
You may notice an improvement by using Toyota Type T-IV ATF, as it is specially formulated for certain Toyota autos. Dexron can actually be bad for some variants of the A3xx gearbox family apparently.
By the way, isn't the handbrake part of the rear disc assembly ? If so, trying to lose traction with the handbrake on will be a lot more of a challenge for the gearbox (and likely to cause damage).

Already using T-IV (the new stuff that came out in May), and although the planet soarer site is useful it still doesnt give me the info i'm after...
Yes, it will be more difficult to spin the rears with the handbrake on, but according to the TSRM it should still do it quite happily under normal operation... 95% of other A34*E users can perform the test with the required results. Like i say its not just the fact that i cant do this, but also that i get such appalling takeoffs.
What i need is some info from someone with the same gearbox who has tried to powerlaunch, as whilst it is unlikely that my gearbox is designed specifically to prevent this i need to find out for certain.. and i cant. Info on this box is unbelievably scarce (i guess i could do with a decent japanese forum, but they're difficult to find and translate).
Cheers
PS am i talking to Bill or Manny?
