simple q here (i think)
wot do i do with the water pump after i install an EWP?
do i just leave it there and get a shorter belt? (getting thermo's too)
or do i take it off and break the fins?
or can i get a hollow cover to replace it? (6M-GE)

The general idea is to take the pump off and remove the fins.
You will probably still need the pulley there for your belt to the alternator.
Dont forget to remove the thermostat!

I hacked my fins off with a cold chisel. But kept the belt as it needs to go round it.

well, apparantly a guy on the mkii list got 25 rwhp from converting to one
he prolly dynoed it before and afta, so it cant be TOO far out

funny thought, I once that the more electric stuff the more horses you can save, everyone bagged what i said, not thre eis dyno proof... haha... The "extra load" on the altenator, is not as much as what you save... hence thermo fans, water and oil pumps, no air con, all add up to power
P.s when removing your fins, make them as even as possible, and inbalance can do a bearing.

Naturally, it's far more inefficient to run something with electrics rather than directly (for the most part - diesel electric trains and similiar are a different matter!), but then when your thermo fan runs, say, 1% of the time whereas the directly driven one runs all the time, its obvious why there's big gains to be had. Eventually, we'll see something more intelligent to operate valves that will do away with camshafts that have to run at full lift against full spring pressure all the time - think about how much energy is wasted there!
