Speed test, part 2

Just had a read of JCMF's speed test thread and I got to thinking...Has Toymods (or an unrelated group) ever got together and "gained" the use of a non-public area (such as an abandoned runway or similar) for top-speed tests/standing mile-type stuff?
I'd be very keen to see just how quick my car goes, but in a "safe" environment away from other people and the inevitable revenue raising - errr...oops, I meant "life saving" - speed cameras.
Just a thought. What do others think?

This has been discussed before i think. Reason it didn't go ahead was they couldn't find that many places to do it and it cost a lot to hire these 'no-public' places

There are no speed limits near my place and only 300k's from Melbourne.
I sit on 176 (I need the speedlimiter removed) for hours

Good for you...and I could go to the NT and have "a crack" there, but it's too far to go! (BTW, I've been "lucky" enough to "test" a CBR1100XX up there - 280KP/H indicated was a reasonable indication!
Still, if there were something closer, perhaps even with P/L waivers etc...
(Probably not in this lifetime...Oh well, back to the NT, I guess)

I know it easy to plan big events when you don't have to do the planning..
Perhaps getting hold of a salt pan, attracting sponsorship and media and turning it into a bigger event that just Toyota.
And turn it into a big automotive camp out.
There are firms that can be used to help organise these sorts of things.
Or turn it into a big charity fund raiser.
Cheers.
