icon5.gif  1G-GTE owners opinions on BOV's..... Tue, 11 June 2002 03:12 Go to next message
Hey guys, im just wondering if any 1G-GTE owners out there have fitted BOV's to there motors. If so, can u let me know what types you have used, and maybe the approx costs.

Also, because its an AFM engine, has anyone tried using an atmospheric vent type and seen the results? does the standard computer with this type freak out at all? Or will i have to go the less ricey plum-back style? Wink

i know of a guy that used a dirty big HKS BOV on his, and i dont think he had any troubles, but i just want to make sure...

I've got a couple of S15 BOVs that I'm going to use for my engine. They're really good BOVs.

I've been told that the Saab (Bosche) BOVs are great value for money also.

From what I remember, venting to the atmosphere is fine for a 1G-GTE (just runs rich during gearchange). Problems are:
Arrow It's illegal
Arrow It's gay

Dont know about any of you guys, but i have heard plumbacks on cars with pod air filters, and you still get a good sound when you change gear, just not extremly loud

Yeah, you still get the sound with a recirculating BOV. The extra loudness is the (IMO sad/gay/ricey) reason people go for the atmospheric BOVs in AFM engines.

Porsche Air Cut Off Valve - Bosch part number 993.110.337.50

Cheap, effective, non ricey, not chrome,no "trumpet", no plug fouling richness on AFM cars and it works!

Yup, that's the Saab/Bosche BOV. I think I heard someone got one for $50 new or something like that...

The S15 BOVs are really good too. I should take a photo of the ones I have. Big, meaty, and pass a LOT of air.

Thanx Allan, thats just the info i was after.

So are these porche valves a plumback type, if not, how do they not cause the fuel richening effect??

Any idea where u can get them? are they like available at places like autobarn and stuff? what about mounting? my intake pipes are the standard cast alloy ones.

I had one of the abovementioned bosch BOV's as used on Saab's etc, it was fitted to my 3TGTE with facory AFM a couple of years ago.

They work well, and are excellent value for money, and despite what some people may tell you, they cannot leak, even with stacks of boost, if hooked up properly.

mine did make a noise even when plumbed back, but you could only hear it if you listened carefully.

In a sudden rush of rice, i decided to try it without the return pipe hooked up, just to hear the noise (vent to atmosphere), and it made the motor run rich enough when idling and between gears to stall most of the time.
