NSW number plates Wed, 12 February 2003 22:24 Go to next message
ive heard that if u have a white car and u have black (writing)on white plates you can get fined because it makes it difficult for the police/camera to see the plates. this applies for black cars with white (writing) on black plates.

any truth to this???

i know for certain it is against the law to:
have an object covering the number plates; and
have old faded number plates on your car...

Sounds like a load of crap to me.
When you apply for plates, they don't ask you what colour your car is.

One thing I do know though, is that they don't like (or allow) numbers and letters that look like each other to be placed next to each other (eg. 1 and I). I read that one somewhere on the RTA site.

I'm quite sure that its crap. I owned a white Paseo for 3 yrs and it had white plates with black wrighting and never had a problem. Got booked speeding 5 times in 2 weeks nothing was ever mentioned about the plates.

I'm pretty sure this is true..if you go on the rta website and use the section to see how a certain number plate would look, putting O and 0 or I and 1 together always comes back saying 'that number plate is not available'.
