Im thinking of putting a 18rg in my ra23, ive read they are rated at about 140hp, a bit more power would be good so what if i put on twin 45mm webers, better cams and big exhaust? Any advice on cams? what are the standard ones like? What size exhaust would be best for an 18rg?
Roughly how much more hp would this give?

Hey there have an 18rg in my ra23 (im in adelaide)
The standard cams are ok i guess, but to get some new ones (billets) i was quted something like $900 or something, thats fom HUNTERS, normally the cheapest place around, after that i decided to leave thre stock ones in.
They are supposed to make 145hp at the fly, If the info i was told is corect, Which is aparrently 108kw at the fly, SO about 60-70 KW at the wheels seems pretty good, when my car was tuned by a dodgy dyno place they said mid 60's
PM me if u have any other questions
BTW i have a 2 inch on my 18rg....or 2.25...i dont remember and its too cold to go and look

Try and get the 18RGEU if you can. The mikuni solex carbs are well due for a rebuild now, and they aren't easy to find parts for.
Also, you'll never have any cold starting problems. The 2TGEUs even come with electronic ignition, so good spark is possible easily.
Also, I've just wired up my 2TGEU in my KE35, which is almost identical, so I can help. As well as the wiring diagram and computer pinouts found on: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/classic-celica
I had a 2TG with twin carbs and cams, went well for a while, but was a sick motor anyways...... still. A dog when cold.
EFI is the bestest! Karl

I've done some work to my 18rg which is in a RA40 celica. I've put in a set of 413b cams form cAmtech. These have a duration of 290 degrees (238 at .o50" cam lift) and 430 " lift. These work well but when I ordered them I was after a bigger set. Something like this in a lighter Celica would work really well. With the other work done (balanced, match port work, heavy duty valve springs, extractors, 2in exhaust and rejeted solexes, increased compression to approx 9.5:1) it goes well. It keeps the VL 6cyl Commedore honest and is good for 200kmh with a 411 diff. Not much power until about 4 g up to 6.5 g. I'd look at putting a 2 1/4 in exhaust on but. Hope this helps.

Sorry, I ment to say it produces around 170 hp at the flywheel, and the cams cost about $400 through Four Plus Performance (I don't know if they still exsist)
