4AGE - Air Fuel Mixture Fri, 14 February 2003 23:35 Go to next message
Just wanted to know if it is located ontop of the throttle body?
There's a flat head shape adjuster. I told my dad the idle was there, he said no. Thats for the air fuel mixture. The idle is on the throttle linkage/connector. We'll he fixed my ilde up problem (Car would start but; would die unless you gave it some gas. it was that little screw on the linkage) Now it idles at 1500RPM even after 2minutes of warming up on first start for the day. What could it be? I want to adjust that screw but he told me not to play with the mixture. Funny how he knew what was happening with my idle up.. i doubted him becuase he drives a carby

maybe he just tightened it too much.

try blipping the throttle..this happened to my car once when my brother played with it, and blipping the throttle would bring the revs back down after. While sitting at lights the revs refused to drop below 2000..you'd have to floor it then let go quickly. But this was all because he had tightened it too much anyway.

Yeah man, that's the idle adjustment for sure.
Play with it all you like, clockwise should lower the idle, anti-clockwise will raise it.

The screw on the linkage is adjusted to just hold the butterfly open slightly so it wont close tight in the throttle body , The screw in the top of the throttle body is for idle adjustment , Some map sensed 4AGE'S had an electronically adjustable idle a/f ratio , It should be in the engine bay somewhere .

the very very early 4AG's had electronically adjustable - they ran no o2 sensor but a resistor which you'd use with a air/fuel meter up the pipe to tell if you were on the money or not...
