hey,
was having dinner last night at my dads place and he told me about a abandoned airstrip. It is located near wilton NSW
Wilton is near appin, and appin is near campbelltown.
It is located on Picton Road which heads down to wollongong. If it just after you come onto picton road from wilton.
Just wondering is anyone knows anything abou it ? I got a map with the airstrip still on it but i think it would be hard to find.
Imgaine the fun that could be had tho

Be a good idea to check it all out first to find any potholes. Especially if it's not been in use for a long time.
Don't want you guys flipping at high speed.

You also need to borrow a decent hand held gps.
preferably one that will record your progress.
These are able to monitor speed to 1 decimal place.
And record tops speed for the journey, so no bulsshit guessing off speedo's etc.
We have used a gps this way b4, the jza70 Auto held high 260's for nearly 5 minutes b4 the auto started to slip.
A manual will do it all day

Any chance you can send me a scanned copy of the map ?
Wilton is like 20 mins from the Gong, I wouldn't mind trying to find it
I can't find any maps at my place that have Wilton included

bad news guys
i went down today to check it out,
it is on waterboard property which has a locked gate and secondly the council has dug it all up to prevent people getting their cars onto it.
so no dice

I was actually after a topographical map rather than a street style map. I know the Wilton area failry well, and was curious as to where the airstrip was located.
If anyone can remember back far enough, Wilton was actually the location of the 2nd Sydney aiport, but was abandoned due to protests (kinda like Badgery's Creek).
If you look carefully in certain places, you can see remnants of the beginning of construction. There is a tunnel near Picton, as well as a bridge that has been started building over the Nepean river from both sides, but was cancelled before it was joined. There are also various railroad tracks which now lead nowhere because the plan didn't eventuate.

if u still want to check it out take picton rd toward wilton
when u pass the turn off on the left to go to cordeux dam, go about 2kms more up picton rd and on the left there is a waterboard access rd, its dirt and its got a gate.
one of the wilton locals and naten both confirmed that it has been dug up

this airstrip is old news... its sort of a local amature rally type location. ive never been there personally but know people who live in Wilton and around that area. its a dirt runway relatively smooth and a good place to practice your rally skills dont know anyone whos been there recently but since when has a gate stopped anyone??

naten and I found out that the air stip out Wilson way is dug up etc.. although we think there is one out at Wedderburn just off Appin road, somewhere, to which I do not know the exact position.
anyone who may know where it is, and information that they may like to share, may help us to find this airstip and we all can have fun
Thanks,
Jarrod
