I've come across an 84 Celica RA65 for sale and I want to know of any things to look out for. I went to see it yesterday and it seems good, 3 tiny bits of rust caught my attention though.
I saw that the engine was code was 22REC, is this the same as the 22RE?
Going to go see it again later today.

Rust in the BOOT...pretty well guaranteed, also front quarters near the mud flaps.
Yeah the 22REC the C stands for Californian (stricter) emissions.

So the RA65 came with the 22RE or the 22REC?
Anyone know the difference in power?

The 22RE and 22REC are the same motor with different emissions packages...basically same hp output.

my ra65 had the 22R-EC .. but I tore the emissions out (dont do this unless you know someone who's lenient on registration)
look for rust all around the rear window seals, and all around the edges of the hatch (both on the hatch and the main body)
look under the carpets in the boot... everywhere backwards of the rear seats basically
one thing I'll say is.. they're a great car.
LOADS of fun to thrash around corners.... nothing better than sitting right on the arse of an R32 skyline all the way along the old pac highway, with no mods except a cat-back, pod filter, and some slightly larger rubber on the stock rims
