MA70 insurance Tue, 18 February 2003 03:02 Go to next message
Hey all.
What is everyone paying for insurance on turbo ma70 supras??
What is your age, driving history and rating also?
What insurance company too?

Thanx.

Was thinking that we should make a database of extra info like this so that others can browse it to find what places have the best deals.
Wouldn't have to be about insurance either. Parts, Service...
Stuff like that would help too.

Brett.

1jz powered MA70 5 speed.
No body mods etc
Completely street legal.

Rating 1, no accidents, 1 speeding fine, age 26......
Just Cars insurance (coz no-one else would) @ $918 per annum (full comprehensive)with $800 excess.

Just Cars offers unlimited modification - so if you add anything, just tell them and it will be insured if stolen/crashed - this includes exhaust, wheels, engine mods etc.

When i recently bought my 7MGTE powered MA-70 with a few mods: suspension, lowered, air filter, exhaust,
the only quote i could get for compo. insurance was through justcars and that was for $5000 with at least $1000 excess, no other place would touch me. Ended up going 3PP with shannons cause they let me pay by the month, ended uparound $800 for the year and i've never had an at-fault accident.

If you are under 25 like me then you can pretty much forget about compo, just go for 3PP and take it easy, especially in the wet, and you should be ok.

good idea with the database as well, especially for the ma-70's.

Helmann------->

I am 23, and have a 206kw MA70.

NRMA quoted just me today $3,800 for an agreed value of $18,000.
I have a limited edition 3000GT Turbo-A.

I then decided to just go 3rd party property. $222. Yes, I have a turbo MA70 (fully imported this month) and NRMA gave me 3rd party property insurance for Two hundred and twenty two dollars. I couldnt believe it either.

I have 5 or 6 speeding fines, and 1 prior at fault accident.

hobbs--------->

My last supra, a MA70 Twin Turbo, was insured 3rd party property with Shannons for $420 per year. If they are charging you $800 a year, thats a bit steep. They just quoted me $500 a year 3PP for my 88 3000GT Turbo-A MA70

hobbs,
how did you get insurance from Shannons? They told me they wouldn't touch anyone under 25.

shannons will touch you (cautiously) if the car's garaged, it came with the engine... etc etc.
$800 is a *lot* to be paying thru shannons tho. my just cars for the 1jz supra will be $630 3PP, which is all I'm going to get till I'm 25, when I move straight to shannons.

damn guys!
i feel even more ripped off now! Mad
i've never had any at fault accidents and one speeding fine.
i guess there are a few other factors:
-i'm only 20
-all previous insurance has been on cars in my parents name as a registered driver and i don't think shannons take that into account as a previous insurance history
-this was in early december, the insurance industry goes up and down all the time according to disasters, terrorism etc. so things may have changed? at the time, i called up all major insurance companies in NSW, none would touch me, only ones were shannonsa and justcars...also that other one, www.youngandcool.com or something, dodgy.

justcallmefrank - when did you call up? their policy seems to be constantly changing, within one week i was first told i could have compo, then told they wouldn't touch me, wtf? also your in perth

helmann - damn that's cheap for comp Smile consider yourself lucky
i might give them another call

draven - where abouts in epping are you? i aint seen any supras out and about ?

I beg to differ...I rang them today and advised them of the addition of 17" rims. They asked me the value and I told them (~$3000). They wont cover the wheels because they are more than 20% of the car's market value (approx. $6900), although they'll cover the car with the wheels on...although they will cover the car with mods, they wont necessarily cover the mods themselves Mad

you *must* have heard me, if not seen me.
I live near coles... received 3 noise complaints on the first day I had the car, and I'm constantly booting it around the back streets toward eastwood way.
I dont really head over the other side of carlo road much, or the other side of the tracks (unless it's on epping rd)
