Im somewhat new to cars but I love them. I have a 94 corolla DX (AE101) I think, well I was just wondering if I should swap the Stock 7AFE to a 3SGTE or what? If not what sould I do to the 7AFE to produce more power. I know most engines in the same family are interchangeable but I talked to a few people and they told me 3SGTE is worth it. Also I need to rework the tranny and need some ideas. Please posts some ideas as i need them

Starlet in USA...
I'm looking for a Toyota rear end for my Toyota Starlet (1983) I need to lower the ration and I was told that the early Corolla Station Wagons (3K - K40 trans, Model KE2X) had a 4:44 - 1 rear end ratio that will work, Also the earlier Starlet Station Wagons (78-81) used that same ration. The Corolla I believe was imported to the USA but the Starlet Wagon was not. They only sold the Starlet here in the USA from 81 to 84. Can any one help? I only need the center section or "pumpkin" so as to
keep the shipping cost down.
Thanks!

There are 2 vacuum hoses of which one line goes to one stage, and the other to the 2nd stage. If anyone knows where the hoses go to, that would be appreciated. I believe one goes to the carby for the vacuum source, but have no idea where the other should go. The original label on the bonnet has completely faded, and I have been unable to source another from the wreckers or from Toyota

3SGE in an AE92

Hi guys, long time lurker, first time poster here.
I own a 1990 model SX hatch and am looking at doing an engine conversion within the next couple of months. I am basically down to 2 options, both N/A.
1) Blacktop 20V, with 6spd box, and maybe an LSD, $6K-$7K
2) 3SGE (BEAMS), with 5spd box, $9-$10K
I went down to Toyospares Bayswater recently and was tempted by the option of putting a 3sge beams into my car. However, upon later reading i found out this engine is in RWD format, so how can it be used in my car? What could go wrong with this set up in my car? Is there any FWD gearbox/LSD combo that could work with this engine?
I'm thinking of saving up a few more months for the 3sge because it will have a good blend of power AND torque, which should allow me to see off heavily modded GZE's and the like

Can anyone tell me the correct flow for a 4agze? From what i understand the waterpump pushes water through the block and up into the head. The two water outlets on the head then return the water to the bottom of the remote thermostat (the front head outlet also diverts to top radiator tube). If the thermostat opens, cool water is sucked from bottom of radiator into water pump. Is this ok understanding or am i pissing in wind?
Have people modified this layout with not using remote thermostat? What type of layouts are there????? cheers with any help

I am currently carless cos my t50 is in bits on the floor due to a rebuild being carried out. Has anyone out there done any of these cos the main question about them i have is how much preload on the output shaft should there be? (how tight do i do the locknut up) also where have ppl gotten the bearings from and have there been any hassels locating any of them... eg centre bearings on both shafts due to their wierd shape. my synchros all look good but at the right price i might replace them, so where would be the best place to get them. are they available aftermarket? or genuine only?

1UZ starter motor

My starter motor SOMETIMES will not engage the flywheel. It ticks like it is hitting a tooth on the flywheel instead of slipping between the teeth and cranking the engine. Only way to get it engaging is rotate the engine with a spanner, or move the flywheel a bit (roll the car forward and drop the clutch).
I think it'd start maybe 4 times in 5.
The flywheel is my old racing flywheel with the R154 gearbox, and has the V8 ringear shrunk onto it.
Could it be that it isn't lined up properly? Can I line it up better? Can I lube it up? Can I twist the starter a bit?
Keep in mind the starter is in the middle of the V and will not be easy to get out (maybe 3hrs off and back on). But the flywheel is even harder to get off (not dropping the gearbox!)

Hi all I'm I've got a Ke70 wagon and I'm planing on changing the engine to a 4AGZE I currently have a 4KC in it, will I have to change the fuel tank? or can I just change the fuel lines and put a electric fuel pump in? I'm thinking of a Bosch Hi-Volume inline E.F.I fuel pump will this be ok?
Also the Ke70 is a cable clutch so what clutch master should I look at getting? How hard is it to change.
Is there any tech guides on changing from cable to hydraulic?
Sorry about all the questions.
Thank's.

dudes!!
i have a minor querie and small problem. I have just purchased two head for the 18rg. One is a ported and polished 88230 head with 45 and 37mm aftermarket valves. The other is a 88250 head which is bog stock (45/37mm valves).
Now the engine i have in my old celica has an 88253 (!?!?) head. So WTF head is this??? So far i have only found (and inferred) this information:
11111-88230 = 18R-G
11111-88250 = 18R-GU
11111-88270 = 18R-GEU
do i have like an 18R-GRU head or something crazy like that!?!
Also would like to know what you guys would recommend i use as the head for my engine im rebuilding? I have read that the later model 18R-GU had a better head flow than the 18R-G, but would the porting and polishing on the 88230 head i have overcome these flaws and outperform a stock 88253 or 88250 head?
Im just lost for thoughts here guys!!!
Will post pics in a sec

Ok, seeing as though I'd rather get some brakes that I'll be able to get in australia. (eg supra etc...) I need to change the brakes to something with a bit more stopping power. Not that I have big problems with the current brakes, I just think i'll need them in the long run. So who has done this and how hard was it?
Can I get brake and caliper set ups that will just bolt in? cos if I can I'd prefer that to making up the brackets that have been spoken of before. plus I would also want them to fit in the current wheels if thats at all possible.
What discs and or calipers can I use as a bolt in?

I am using EMS on my 1g and the air temp reads between 1 to -51. On acceleration i get black smoke, which means it must be running bloody rich and the car moves like a slug.
I have removed the air temp sensor and cleaned it with petrol and it hasn't made a difference!!
Does anyone know what the problem is and how do i fix it??

Dash wiring (general)

Tue, 11 February 2003 02:02

My dash isn't lighting up at all (digital dash MA70).
My question is:
Of the wires from the dash into the plug (near the factory computer). Should there be a mains power, and an (mains) earth?
So two of the 12 on the plug I'm thinking of (flat plug, with the engine sensors on it - water temp, oil press, diagnostics chip) should be power and earth?
I really don't want to take the dash out to have a look at it. And I'm not good at reading wiring diagrams (I've tried a few).
Any help is appreciated.

Side mirrors, what car shares what?

I've been looking for a left mirror for my KE55 Corolla for awhile now, rumour has it that it was an option on the panelvans/wagons, and I've seen one or two KE35's running around with factory left mirrors. I've also noticed that the ones on the XT130/RT133 look similar, as do the ones on the Datsun 200B or something along those lines?
Anyone have any idea if these are indeed identical?
