I also have a 1980 (well '81) Corona (see, jag's article in general discussion) and i also am looking at getting a bit more than the stock 3kw at the wheels. (if some of you are doubting my ridiculously high power figures, please note that i had removed the airfilter for that particular dyno run )Unfortunately i got jipped with mine and have to put up with the neck-snappingly powerful Starfire motor. However for $400 with airconditioning AND REGO i wasn't really complaining if you know what i mean . But here's for crazy ideas, i have a TD04 Cordia turbo sitting in my dad's garage, and i think you know where this is going. Now i know a lot of you would be instantly going , however i have heard that this engine is extremely strong, so i was thinking, a low boost application, big frount mount 'cooler, a decompression plate, and a few 45mm webbers later, it would be atleast powerful enough to warrant putting in the extra time to actually bother tying it down onto the dyno! I might add that i already have the turbo, twin 45mm ida sidedraught webbers (prob only need 1) and a guy who'll do the manifolds and pipeing for free. (don't ask, and no, he won't do it for anyone else!) Anyway, anyone with any advice would be appreaciated.
p.s please remmember that this is my "muck-around" hill climb car and not my good car, so don't tell me to get another car, just tell me how and what else i need to do to make this damn thing go!
p.p.s I know it still won't be fast, 80kw @ the flywheel i'm hopeing for, i just want to hear that sweet sound of reverted boost pressure getting chopped up by the compressor wheel and echoing through the huge intercooler!

89 Celica 3sgte swap

Guys,
A question about an st165 89 Celica swap: how easy a conversion it to fit a 3sgte using the standard g/box and front end? Will the g/box be able to withstand the higher torque loads from the turbo engine? And likewise with the driveshafts? I want to avoid swapping the 4wd driveline as it will require heaps of custom fabrication work and hence cost. I'd rather try to use the standard driveline instead.
Is there a straight brake swap for this model? Upgrading the brakes to gt4 spec would be nice, but will the calipers and discs fit the standard front hubs and uprights?
And which model 3sgte should be employed? The newer the better I figure, but can the later model engines fit into the earlier model engine bay?

4A-GZE water pump in a 4A-F?
|
Thu, 18 July 2002 09:13
|
|
Heya,
I have a 1991 Corolla with the 4A-F engine (carburettored), and have discovered that the water pump is leaking from the drain plug. I've been told that it is not worth just replacing the seals, as the leaking usually means the internals of the pump are stuffed aswell.
I have a late model AE92 4A-GZE sitting in my carport, waiting to get put in over the summer. My question is whether the water pump on that will match up ok to my 4A-F engine. If it does i can save myself about 150 dollars, as i've been quoted 300 dollars to fit a new pump.
Any help on this would be great. Thanks, Liam.

AE92 shocks matched to Spring Rate
|
Mon, 22 July 2002 02:36
|
|
Okay, I'm after some AE92 front inserts for my Corona TT132 struts which are in my Corolla KE35.
Now, the AE92 shock is about 50-60mm shorter then Corona item, so I'm going to space it up and this will allow me to use 3" shorter springs. Why 3"? cos I have cut one coil off the standard corona springs so that the car sits at factory height.
I am going to be running 6KG/nm or 335ft/lbs front springs, and will need some shocks to suit.
I rang a local store and they suggested these Tokico shocks for $145NZ which is about $70 USA per shock, this is very cheap. I queried them whether these would be suitable for 6KG, and he reckons that the standard Corolla AE92 runs about 300-400ftlbs. I don't believe him, I think standard AE92 would be more like 150ftlbs.
Anyhow, a revalved bilstein insert to match 6KG springs would be about $300NZ or $150 US. Hence my skeptism over the Tokico shocks.
NB: AE92 shocks also fit in AE86 struts, if you guys want shorter shocks without having to buy TRD short strokes
----------------
UPDATE: AE92 GT have 120-150lbsft springs (2KGNm)
Apparently KYB Gas shocks for them are suitable for 350lbsft springs. Cost is ($115 NZ Retail or $55 US roughly) I've had people tell me that Monroe GT Gas would be underdampened. I don't rate monroes.... but i imagine kyb and monroes would be much the same.
Sooooo, what are peoples thoughts?
I'm thinking I may just have to go Koni Reds ($234 NZ Retail) and have them revalved ($140 NZ retail)..... (prices each). (This is to suit 6KG - 335lbsft springs)

Hey guys I have learnt a lot from these forums and I would like any info about solex (i have a later model pair on my 2tg), webber or similar side draught carburetors, solex webber side draught mostly, Im after any info factual or from personal experience about:
1.Types, models, specs, early/later generation, carbs used on 2tg's, 18 rg's mostly.
2.Recomended set-ups, jet sizes, combinations, for high revs, drivability etc.
3.Webber vs solex, webber more race carb?, solex more drivable, better emissions?
4.Tuning, how many turns of the mixture screws(from closed)? performance.
5.Forced induction carbs for 2tg, what to use, modified? 6.Anything else, experiences, modifications etc.
Any pics urls, info can be emailed to me at: poide69@hotmail.com, or left here.
Cheers I am crippled for the next four weeks with one arm in a sling so any info is appreciated!, pete

Hey all,
I have sourced a brand new genuine 7MGTE fuel pump, for the MA70 Supras, which i intend to use for my 4AGZE transplant into my Corolla (AE92).
It is apparently from the company that supplies Toyota with the genuine parts for a variety of fuel pumps. The wreckers i was at was on the phone making some enquiries with the dealer when i happened to be in there asking about fuel pumps.
They said they can pass on the cost to me at 295 dollars. Is this is a good price for a new in the box 7MGTE fuel pump? I really wouldn't have a clue. Or would i be better off with some other option, such as a Bosch pump or similar? I hear that the 7MGTE pumps fit straight up in the Corolla tank but am not 100% sure.
Also, the guy said that the cost RRP at Toyota for the pump is about 750 dollars ... does this sound about right or is he telling porkies?
Thanks for any help, Liam.

The sprinter rails are bent at the front, and bolt on in a sideways position rather than on top like the mirage one and the universal ones from supercheap autos do..
So where and who do I get to do the quickest and cheapest job on taking the rails off the sprinter and attaching it to the mirage seats ?.. [in melb btw]

Curren with 3S-GE, what mods to do?
|
Fri, 09 August 2002 10:30

i just bought a 1996 Toyota Curren ZS, its basically a Celica of the same year but different exterior. well its got the JDM 3S-GE in it but what mods should i do? the first thing im going is getting a Mongoose MX750s alarm installed. its on 205/55 15s but they too small and are snow/ice/road tires so they have no grip for the driving that i do. I did have an 87 Mazda Capella C2 GTS (MX6) but that got totalled last Wednesday by an 85 Landcruiser and ive got 2 month old 205/50 16s Potenza RE711s on Mazda Lantis Type R (Astina V6) wheels but they cant go on the Curren and they are Mazda wheels so i'll be buying some 16x7 wheels to match the tires. i'd rather get some 17s but i get some wheels to match, then lower with new springs and shocks and then get 17s later when i have the money. what changes should i make to the intake and exhaust? and yes i did a search but didnt come up with anything so im sorry if this has already been asked thanks for any help thou

Hey guys,
Well its come down to this. ive had my 7MGTE probs and now ive got some money to into action.
My options are this.
1.Buy a New 7MGTE from a jap import yard....bolt up existing inletmanifold, exhaust manifold w/turbo, and put new HKS 2mm headgasket onto a new ported and polished head. This bolts up the existing auto gearbox etc......ruffly $3k
2.Buy 1JZGTE and bolt it up to the existing auto, but still have to get the wiring done etc..... ruffly $5k
3.Buy a 1JZGTE manual halfcut and convert it to that. But includes New wiring etc...all up round round $6-8k
So yeah, i want a manual so i think thats the way to go. Already been quoted $1.5k for a manual conversion to a 7MGTE so it would be cheaper to do it already with the engine out. Question is should go for a 7M again this time with a metal gasket etc..... or go with the newer 1J. Keep in mind that reliability is the key not power.
Just wondering what you guys suggest
....Jake

i have hooked up my splitfire boost gauge on my 90 model gt starlet but i dont know if its reading right. i put the t-piece off the pressure sensor but dont know if its right???? how much boost runs through a stocker on hi and lo???? i have a spec sheet and it says 9.5psi on hi and 6psi on lo. if this is right then my gauge is wrong cos it struggles to get to 8psi on hi (reving around redline). Another thing--can i change the amount of boost without a boost controler, cos i want to keep the hi and lo option. Right now im looking at a turbosmart dual stage boost controler which will set me back about $280. if there is a cheaper alternative i would like to know....thx..

AE86 diff and final drive questions - help!

Fri, 16 August 2002 06:28

hey people,
this is a question for the diff experts..
from what car can i source a 4.3 final drive pinion that will fit the Aus-Spec 4AC diff?
I have a JDM AE86 that someone (ahem.. john roberts) decided to steal the factory LSD and tailshafts from.. only to be replaced with 4AC open-wheeler diff and aus-spec tailshafts... a previous owner had a TRD LSD installed into the Aus-spec diff.. but the ratio is still 3.9 final drive or whatever the Aus-spec one is.
Can anyone help? what is the difference - for example size or whatever between the Aus delivered 4AC diff/tailshafts and the JDM ae86 4.3 lsd/tailshafts?
Can i order a 4.3 from toyota or am i better off just getting a whole new rear-end set from japan?
Thanks for any help.

Could anyone please tell me what brakes or struts I could use on a KE20/25 to get some decent brakes without having to spend a fortune on aftermarket ones. The problem I have is that the lower arms on the KE20/25 are a different length than all other Toyota's I have looked at and the arms are not interchangeable. Does anyone out there do a mod on the arms that are legally engineered that I might use on maybe Celica struts. Any help would be appreciated.

Help - Oil Pressure Sending Unit on 22RE-C

Hi. I am new to this forum. I own a 1984 Toyota Celica GTS (California car). I had my fuel filter replaced (pain in the ass) by a mechanic. Afterwards, the oil pressure gauge was no longer working. There is oil in the car and the car ran fine. I suspect the sending unit may have been disconnected by accident while he was working on it. Do you guys know where this unit is? Isn't it usually on the engine block near the oil filter? Please help..

18R-GEU injectors not firing

G'day, I can't believe i've owned celicas for 5 years and never found your site. my problem:- I'm currently fitting an 18rgeu into an RA-28 celica however after wiring in I've found the injectors aren't firing. Assuming that the car is wired correctly I'm assuming that there is a problem with the IG signal from the igniter to the ECU can anyone give me any ideas on a fix. I'm using the original coil from the old setup with an MX-62 cressida igniter. does the coil itself need to be from the cressida as well? Any body else running an 18rgeu with standard computer tell me what coil/igniter they are using? Part No's on igniter?

mx73 exhaust system

hey toymodders,
I am in the process of choosing a car, and hope to get a good quality mx73. Point is, I don't know much about cars, and I am just wondering what the maximum diameter pipe is that I could fit down the exhaust pipe cavity under the car, so I can order some mandrel bends from where I work, and get a mate to build it. Like, how damn big can the pipe be, the whole way: 3 inches? 3.5? You tell me...
thanks all!
PS don't tell me to ditch the "boat anchor" I will, but after I get some more driving experience. I just want to put the exhaust on to make the eventual engine upgrade a little less financially intense.

Hi peoples i was wondering if i can get some info and advice off all of you.
I want to to put a good turbo engine in a ke30 4dr corolla, is this a good engine to choose.
I want to spend a small amount so i guess is this the best bang for my buck as far as turbo engines go? What is the process of putting one of these engines in, ie do i need custom engine mounts? what gear box? leaglities? what 1/4 0-100 times would i expect from this? and finally are the engines reliable?

GZE Water to air 'coolers?

Guys,
Has anyone had any experience with the water to air intercoolers used on earlier model gt4 celicas? I'm curious as to whether they are a viable alternative to going front mount with my 90 corolla 4AGZE. What about liberty rs turbo water to air systems, any better or worse?
And for those guys with a front mount cooler in corollas, did you need to remove your air con equipment to make room? Waht difference did the larger volume of intake system make to the engines responesivness?
Thanks

has anyone had any experience with these? Are they good quality? I am doing a coilover conversion on my ae86 struts soon, and am looking for options. I think I also saw some quadrant ones. Any one know what the prices are like for sleeves and hats?
Has anyone here dont the conversion? Are there any traps that I should look out for?
Thanks

Any body got any idea how to get the glass out of those doors? I spent all night last night trying to that, and change the regulator. Got nowhere on the glass and gave up on the regulator cos i finally go tthe new one in and found that it was slightly different! 1 of the bolts is in a slightly different position. Does any one know where the different regulators are from? V8 or later years maybe??
