Guys i'm at a wits end here, refer to 'supra fuel consumption'
I've always had the idea that Turbo Cars are quite fuel 'efficient' and my Cress 1G conversion was justified for wanting more power and havin more fun.. But this thing with the fuel economy is driving me to the cleaners man...i'd like some help with trying to indentify the problem.
Engine - 1G-TT 3rd Gen,BOV,Pod filter,1.5kg lighter flywheel,
standard boost.
Chassis - Cressida GX60 standard M/T
Now the G/box from the original engine (1G-GE) is a W57 and the TT comes with a W58. The power on acceleration is not very 'good' or up to spec i'd think, cause the 'higher' end torque and response is very good the initial lower end is bad. I've had smaller cars with 1000cc engine getting the better of me at stop lights.
However that's not my main concern. The fuel is 'far' too much and i thinks there's a problem with the Turbos' or air leaks or actuator/wastegate.
The main symptom is a 'squeak' as i accelerate and a sudden drag, but for just a second, feels like it's gonna fly then..there's that squeak, tug then that heavy feeling than..i know the engine is using too much fuel to give that push..which seems very sluggish...at times...
Anyone here who can be of assistance please help !!.This weekend i will check for air leaks, and most probably remove the turbos and manifold to get to the wastegate/actuatuors etc.
Nark and the others who have the 1G, please give me some feedback on the possibilities.
Thank you all so much
cheers
p.s. 'Split pulse' does this mean anything ?? should i be looking for something at the manifolds ??

My question is with the new T28 turbo I had to turn the turbo mounting around so the air pod is on the side of the side vent and fan. When boost comes on in the cab I get a wooosh noise which I originally thought was air leaking but I actually think it may just be air being sucked into the intake. Ive checked all joins for leaking, checked the bov. So thats all I can think it could be.
Does anyone else have a pod mounted like this and does it make the same noise?

I have aquired the instrument panel and wiring loom from an '93 SX Seca, and i want to put it in my 92' CSI Seca.
My problem is that the SX instrument panel has several more additions to the panel (volts, oil level, time),
Is it possible to modify my existing loom and add the necessary wires from the sx to fit, or will i have to redo my whole wiring loom using the SX loom.
I also have the SX computer, but obviously it is modified for the 100kw engine, but will this computer be needed for the SX instruments?

G'day,
What's the best way to go for upgrading KE25 braking? This car is going to end up as a rally car (hopefully) so I want something reasonably good. I was thinking maybe a sprinter disc rear end and some sort of 4 pot setup on the front. Are there any good swaps? I would also like to be able to get adjustable shocks for the front struts, so nothing too obscure.

howdy all
just wondering what kinda noise if any would the sc12 or its components? at the moment its making like a humming noise at idle, then on the way home tonight, heard something and pulled over quick, was making a reasonable loud kinda ticking noise, got me pretty worried
any ideas?
Also i just put a new water pump in it as that shot through too
was thinking the noise might be the sc idle pulley (tension pulley thingy) ?!

Im also getting some qoutes on buying a blacktop 20v frontcut, to get that rebuild if i in deed get it.
question 1)
I noticed Dominator performance offers large discounts to TM members.
Roughly what prices would be looking at?
Do they do good jobs IRally already recommened them
Any suggestions other than GZE bla bla...
Thanks guys, long time no post on the good old TM forums (im a Twincam Forum man)

Yesterday I got the Celica Repair Manual (bitch to get hold of) and I've been reading through it and it's gonna keep me quite occupied (it's sik) not that there's anything wrong with my car. But I have one problem with the wiring diagrams, I want to swap the air flow meter cos' it's restictive (stupid flap design) but the wire colours are different from that of Nissan's. If anyone has any clue what each colour represents on the Toyota AFM then that would be a great help, if not I'll eventually work it out with some mates somehow.

Hi guys
Im buying a kit of someone who's upgrading their turbo.
Ive got a pretty healthy bluetop which was reconditioned about 5000kms ago and i just need some details.
the kit came off a 4agze and 'should' bolt straight onto my bluetop it's a T3 turbo with a 3 inch dump pipe
heard I can remap my current ECU is this a wise thing to do ? I'm planning on running ca18det injectors and keeping everything else stock (including boost).
Read somewhere on the forums that someone did it with to their mr2 and it works great. I have a japspec gbox with a standard S Series Diff on my sprinter will this holdup with mild trashing. Oh yea i'm also going to use a standard clutch.
if anyone thinks this is a stupid idea let me know!! oh yea i've also got a supra intercooler to bolt on.

found the cuase of my misfiring engine (running on 5 cylinders)
|
Sat, 11 October 2003 09:09
|
|
So one night after flooring my supra it started misfiring, and was running on 5 cylinders.
anyway after a month of my MA70 supra just sitting there, i built up the courage to actually work on my 7mgte. Pulled all the piping off etc to get the cam covers off, took the middle cam cover off and there was ALOT of oil sitting in the spark plug wells. I had a fun time taking it all out ( oil ended up in my mouth alot) then proceeded to take out the spark plugs, turns out the number 2 spark plug had no gap! the contacts were touching eachother.
That explians why i was running on 5 cylinders. But how in the hell could the spark plug end up like that? it would have to be hit with a hammer to make the contacts touch eacthother. I looked in the hole that the spark plug came out of with a torch and i couldn't see any marks on the piston. So the piston shouldn't of touched the spark plug. perhaps a ring or some foriegn object (chunk of carbon) was in the chamber to do that to a spark plug. Anyway i'll do a compression test in a few days and find out more. Have you guys ever had a spark plug end up with the contacts touching eachother? If so is it cuased by something more serious? or is it possible spark plugs can end up that way from just bieng used?
I'm no expert with mechanics, so forgive my lack of knowledge.
I will put new cam seals in to hopefully stop the oil leaking into the middle part of the head. But i just hope i don't have a major problem like big end. Altho i never heard any knocking or ratteling when the problem occured.
anyway would love to hear of any simular experiences or advice.
Cheers, Chris

hi guys i'm new to this forum.. but it seems to me that you guys know more than the american enthusiasts. so what i would like to ask is i found a full spool for rwd celica's, and i'm wondering if i can fit this into my kouki ae86 (thicker axles, it also has stock lsd with 4.3 r&p) i would figure there might be a problem with the 25 mm axles i have and that i think all 1985 and earlier t-series rear ends had 24mm diameter axles.
so can i buy this part and fit it into my ae86? because i know the non gts (irs) celicas had 6.7" rear ends... and the ae86 also does too... so would it work? if not... is there spool that you guys know of that i can buy to fit my rear end? thanks

How can this be modified? drill a new hole in the floor pan or redrill the rails to have a slotted hole?
can anyone help out and how do they look once in the car???

Very new to toyota's (my first post) But anyway my g/f got a TA22 celica which i put a 2tg and manual box in, then i cooked the head so decided to rebuild it as the bottom end was showing it's age..
I got a crank from a 3t since the old crank needed a regrind anyway so nothing to lose, and the 2t-g was a bit low on bottom end toque.
What i'm after is the toque specs to put it back together. For now just the specs for bottom end will keep me busy (ie main caps, rod bolts, etc) But if someones's got them all then even better.
Is there anything special to the "G" series motor to pay attention to when reassembling?
Could i use a normal T motor manual as a guide? (i'd like to avoid paying $30 to get one if i could)
I was going to use the factoty 3t or 2t specs but heard that the
2t-g series motors are different?
I've got the right pistons to clear the G head with the 1.8 crank so that's not an issue. Plus the crank did fit in the block ok, suggesting that it was a GEU motor? (has carbs though)
I've rebuilt a coupla motors before but they involved pushrods.
Any help/advice apreciated. Thanks.

Intercooler Temp. on a ST185CS/ Group A

I got an ST185CS with W/A intercooler, when driving hard the temperature in the throttle area goes up to app. 62 degrees celcius even though the IC pump is runnig constantly and I have filled the coolant from KN in the IC. Outside temp app. 20 degrees.
Is the pump need to be repared.?
Could I replace it with a much larger pump and will it make a difference.?
Any one got mesurements from IC Out-temp.

About a year ago I passed through Townsville in the early hours of the morning and saw a white AW11. So this has lead me to ask how many are in the area. I am in Mackay.
