heh Whenever there is an electrical problem, its always the diodes. I would suspect your alternator is being screwey. Pull it off, have it checked out by your local auto elec. Should take more than 10 mins including the pulling off. Autoelec will prob even do it for free. If its boned... Get a reco one. 12V with engine off is normal. Charge at Idle is usually around 13.6. Test the voltage at the battery when the car is revving at about 3000RPM. When ignition is on, and the car isnt started. There is come current draw. If you had a short in the alt your battery would be flat / blown up. EDIT: I would suspect the current draw to be less than 5 amp. Nothing to be worried about. What car do you have?
