will these rims fit on my Gen 2 camry (SV21)?

i am considering purchasing some Volk Racing rims however i'm not sure that they will be able to fit on my car. the tyre measurements are:
205/40/16 (front)
225/40/16 (rear)
over on the toyotanation forum they said that 225 wide tyres can fit on a camry, but i'm concerned about offset and stud pattern. i know mine is 5x100, whereas the car it is coming off is a MR2 (5x114.3) but there are adaptors that i'm hoping are 5x100 pattern. also on TN they mentioned the ideal offset was 40mm, or just under, how much under can i go? what should i look out for when i go to try them on the car? also i've heard, in NSW at least, that you can be defected if the outermost edge of the rim is sticking out from the car over 1 inch from stock. can anyone confirm this? thanks.
