Busted Cruise Control ST162

My cruise doesn't work, which is going to equate to speeding fines sooner or later, so the folks at Sideshow are going to look at it for me later this week hopefully, but I thought I would just put this out there if anyone had had experiences with cruise on these cars.
I check the diaphram for a split or something, and it it seems to be sealing well, though it doesn't move when I try and suck it (that is apply some vacuum with my lungs  )
There is vacuum on the hose when the car is running, but I can't exactly test it at speed in my driveway now can I?
The light comes on when I push the button near the radio, but none of the steering wheel switches do anything.
Does anyone have any ideas, I am thinking that it may be a wiring issue as the dude who owned the car before me did the worst job on the radio I have ever seen.
Do the cruise motors go very often? ANY ideas would be so helpful for when we look at it later.
