RA40Celica Regular Location: Hobart Registered: June 2002	18rg clarifications, solexes & fuel Fri, 01 August 2003 03:27 Hi, after searching the forums i know both these topics have been discussed in detail, however the conclusions are unclear. I have an 18r-g... that is the early 145hp 9.7:1 CR. Now this was produced before japan went to unleaded fuel, right?... so this doesn't have hardened valve seats (unless it was rebuilt with them), therefore needs upper cylinder lube?, so you shouldn't run straight PULP, ULP. ... however, they all have alloys heads so does this mean they do have hard valve seats? also, the solexes. Did the early 18r-g come with 40mm or 44's? mine has main jets with 170 and 145 stamped on them. A mechanic told me today that i had the "baby" carbs (just by looking at them), from 18R-GU and that i should rejet the carbs to get more performance. I haven't measured my carbies since i haven't had them off. He was suggesting the early 18r-g came out of the factory with bigger than 40 carbies. anyway... doesn't any of that make sense?
