1JZ Power Steering Problem Bizzare

Hello,
After the conversion, and reading up on the 1JZ hydraulic fan and on the basics of the 1JZ. I noticed that my power steering was being routed from the power steering pump on the right hand side of the engine, to the water pump hydraulic inlet and outlet and then somehow through the reservoir and into the steering rack. Is this strange to you? How is this even working? The steering isn't as good as it used to be, but it is ok, however the reservoir overflows all the time, even with a new rubber o-ring in it. Here is a picture of the system, i left out a return hose to the power steering pump, but you can get the jist of it.

Any ideas? I just wanted to put in a 2JZ water pump as it's making alot of bearing noise at the moment and it would be good to get rid of the hydraulic setup!
I was going to add another reservoir for the power steering on the right hand side near the power steering pump anyway.
Alex.
