Get a list of Engineers from the RTA and call them. Different engineers will tell you different things.
Before I did my conversion, I call about 12 engineers. Answers ranged from a flat no to stuff like having to do brake upgrades as well.
If you're in NSW, I recommend Frank Lohning. He said that the conversion was legal and not to worry about brakes. He tests the cars personally and passes them depending upon his judgement, not by what the paper from the RTA says.
