3SGTE - Strange Boost Problem Fri, 10 October 2003 00:43 Go to previous message
Hey guys (and gals?)

I have a very strange problem. Last night whilst out and about I had a unfortunate over-rev situation. This ended with the engine light coming on and the car appeared to be in some sort of "Limp Home" mode. It could be driven OK, but as soon as the turbo tried to kick in the engine management shut it down (cutting fuel I think). The check engine light illuminated for around 5 secs. Driving under the boost was fine (although a little pedestrian).

After pulling over, shutting the car off and checking a few things I gingerly applied pressure and got boost, then more boost, and more . . . . got to around 1.1BAR and then fuel cut/check engine. Then continues to drive ok, but as soon as boost comes on it gets shut down (no boost for you, naughty boy).

So I stop and switch off for 5 mins and then carry on with lots of boost, can drive it OK at around 10-13 psi. Normal boost maxes around 7psi. I do not have a boost controller. Whilst I am enjoying the extra boost (as long as I am careful not to over do it), I am concerned as to the actual cause of this??

Any ideas??
