Hi
I'm probably going to be buying a car with a Gen 3 1GGTE conversion this week, but there are a few things I need cleared up before going ahead with it. The engine is stock apart from a 3 inch exhaust and a pod filter.
When I drove it the car ran a bit rough off boost, and didn't get full boost (of only .5 bar) until just over 4000rpm. The owner explained that it wasn't running full boost because it doesn't have a particular electronic component that it needs to regulate boost, so the gates are opening early. He said that he fitted a boost controller which corrected the problem of it running low boost, but made one turbo spool before the other. He said that they then fitted two boost controllers, ran the car at 11psi and it ran very well. He has since removed these boost controllers as they were the property of his mate. He also said that he has found and fixed a leak in the IC plumbing, and that it is hitting full boost now at 3000rpm, and going harder.
My question is, is it possible to source this electronic boost controlling part? Or would it be easier to get a professional to fit an aftermarket boost controller?
Also, at what engine speed do most people find their 1GGTEs hitting full boost? How do the cars go off boost? This one was a bit sluggish IMO. He had the compression tested a couple of weeks ago and the results varied between 95 and 105 psi across the six cylinders. What results have others got?
Thanks
*EDIT*
I forgot to add that I have read the thread from bbdond, and have searched for this stuff at length.
