Cheap upgrades for more horsepower? Help please?

Hey
Down the track I'm gonna hopefully chuck a bigger engine in my hiace. At the moment i'm looking at cheap upgrades I can do to get more horsepower out of it. So far I've had these suggetsions:
-Put a performance carb on it
-put a K&N filter up the front near grill and pipe back via huge pipe to carb
- unbolt catalytic converter
So can anyone suggets a good cheaper carb upgrade for a 1rz engine? Also any other cheap horsepower mods?
